hey has anyone been to team tech instruments in SIM LIM square? apparently suppose to be the official distributor for istanbul cymbals. for those who hav been there wads their variety like? do they hav sultans and turk and those other higher ranges fo istanbul?

To be precise... it was Alchemy cymbals... what I last heard that the person responsible is presently serving NS and will resume shipment of the cymbals after ORD. Will check out what is the lastest status. The last time bought the professional series 8" and 10" splash for $190. Excellent cymbals... one drummer who played the 10" splash valued the quality to be at least $150...

so how does alchemy cymbals sounds like....
are they bright or dark sounding?

from the prices you quoted, seems like they are really damn expensive types huh???
i mean 2 splashes costing near $200?? wow, can buy 1 16" cymbal....
hee hee

2 splashes for 200 is not a lot of money... 100 per splash is not that much liao, 100 cant even get u a 6" hand hammered splash, at the most a 12" b8pro splash or sometin.

oh ok..
maybe i'm ignorant about prices
but coz i bought my 8" zildjian zbt splash for onli $68
dats why i tot its expensive

oh haha... cuz ZBT is made of sheet bronze, not like the K's which are made of cast bronze, and not only that, K's are the highest end of zildjians.

how do u find the ZBT splash? was it worth ur money?

i use an AA metal-x splash 10" and a K custom dark splash 12", and i jus luv them :P

Alchemy is by Istanbul Agop... the cymbals sounded similar to Istanbul Mehmet. Yup, I agree with the rest that 2 splashes of the Professional series(Hand Hammered) for $190 is not expensive...

hey guys.. sori if i'm just being naive about the prices and all...

nysk:
the ZBT splash...
i find it onli a-ok... not really to wat the sound dat i want..
just that it's cheap, so i grab it lah...
even if it doesnt work out, i can also stack it on top af a 10" china,
and it sounds like stax... hee he.. try it...
being sort of innovative...
anyway, i'm using it also depend on my mood and the song i'm playing,
different songs different cymbals different sound...
am i ryte?

but anyway, i'm thinking of getting K custom splash and sabian crash as well...

drum hobbyist:
thanx for the info bro...
but i like the sound of samatya better than the mehmet...
anyway, thanx again bro

joshie:
quoted from nigel in reply to my same question as yours
"The Samatya Box set of 20” Ride, 16” Crash and 14” HiHat is $650. I do not sell them seperately."

the samatya crash is really a very nice sound!
but too bad he doesnt sell them separately, if not i sure grab

Hey DullTheater...

it should be you prefer Samatyas to the Traditionals... Istanbul cymbals have two branches... Istanbul Mehmet and Istanbul Agop... Samatya series belongs to Istanbul Mehmet...

Have been hearing that the Samatyas are selling like hot cakes around the world... if I am not wrong according to marketing strategy... Istanbul Mehmet should be launching the effects cymbal pack - 10" splash and 18" China... I would prefer 12" splash and 17" China... ... can't wait to get the pack...

he should sell them seperately man.. haha can earn more money if it sells well compared to selling as box setx.

If there is really a demand which I believe it has, Istanbul Mehmet will change its marketing strategy to sell them separately... so have to wait... all good things must wait...

dum_hobbyist:
ohh... i din noe about dat bro...
but when i try samatya, they sounded much much better than those mehmets dat nigel put up at his store...
say.... are istanbuls the most expensive cymbals around?

joshie:
yeah bro .. i agree wif you.... wud really like to get that samatya crash i was toking about...

hmm drum hobbyist, do u noe a lot about istanbuls? how do the sultans sound like jus curious haha... they look very tempting (tru all ur gd remarks) though i tried the mehmets and they sounded too crisp for me likin' =P

DullTheater:

Brands like Zildjian, Sabian, Istanbul Mehmet and Agop, Bosphorus, Anatolian, Masterworks etc. all came from the same origin of Turkish made cymbals. As time goes by, the clan splited each going their own way.

To my knowledge, Bosphorus models are value for money compared to Istanbul models here in Singapore.

Though the Samatyas and Traditional are hand hammered cymbals. Samatyas sounded different due to the brilliant finish and lower profile(curve of the cymbal).

Then maybe sultans should be just nice for you. Though I didn't heard one personally, but by observing its manufacturing process, it will sound dark. Go and try it when the series is available at Nigel's shop.

The person concern will not be bringing in Istanbul Agop cymbals as he will be going overseas for studies. So all have to settle with Istanbul Mehmet cymbals with Nigel...
