NUSCO has the honour of collaborating with renowned composer Mr. Chen Ning-chi.
Headlining the concert will be symphonic poem The Battle of Chibi《赤壁》, which recently made its world premiere with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. Mr. Chen Ning-chi has been a prolific composer for decades, and produced numerous classics along the way, including the popular Hong Kong musical Tales of Walled City《城寨风情》, Becoming a Butterfly in a Dream 《梦蝶》 and The Legend of the Dragon《龙的传奇》, all of which will be played at the concert.
The Battle of Chibi presents a unique sound tapestry fused together by the sounds of the guqin, Song Dynasty lyrics, and Suzhou pingtan that is sure to awe many in the audience. The epic scale of the piece, together with its rich historical background of the Three Kingdoms era, makes this performance a must-watch event in the 2011 music calendar.
