clear coat of what ever it is...primer,laquer? i have completely no idea what the clear coat is called..

but,how much will it cost to do so? and maybe,a transparent colour coat? or maybe a funky design on the guitar? how much can it cost? single colour is sightly dull and boring...guitar body is mahogany...so should i choose a clear coat or whatever i just stated for a minimum price?

Wood > pore filler > primer/base coat > colour coat/stain > clear coat

Pore filler fills in the many little holes in the wood known as pores so that the surface is level and flat. Without it, the finished wood will look something like a painted wooden fence.

Primer or base coat allows the colour coat to stick evenly to it and thus prevent any flaking off.

Colour coat/stain is self explanatory.

The clear coat simply protects everything underneathe it, and lends some lustre and aesthetic purpose to the guitar. Lacquer is a generic term for the various materials which can be used as a clear coat finish.

Uh, can you rephrase the 2nd paragraph of your post in a more specific manner? Such as what you are looking for exactly?

great thanks^

well, with what you said,i don't want the single colour...what i mean is just a transparent coat on the plain mahogany,so that the grain of the wood can be seen. So what i really mean is just a simple natural finish so i can see the mahogany body...so how much is striping the old paint and preparing the body for the natural finish?

Hmm something like that I would put it around 300 dollars. Really depends on how good you want it to be. It is just a ball-park figure though. Anyway, the lower the better =D

so expensive dang it...hope its really not that expensive..the main purpose is just to be able to see the grain of the mahogany and of course with some protection coat to protect the wood...any other cheaper options?
