hello softies, i have been longing to take of the floating trem in my ibanez, fill it the cavity with wood and smack a fixed bridge on it ala Paul Gilbert. Where would you guys recommend to get this job done? Many thanks..

Cheers

Dude, theres only 1 obvious way to remove the Trem.

You will have to remove Strings and remove Springs.... How hard can it be ?

get your guitar to some luthier.maybe guitar connection.but there has gotta be some softies who have done this.price wise.hmm maybe abit ex.

the tremol-no works decently well to lock down the bridge but doesnt provide the added thickness in tone/sustain increase of a fixed bridge conversion..

filling the cavity is a big job..might also have to involve a refinish, definately major $.

what i've done before is to get a block of basswood/hardwood of your choice, cut and sand it to fit in the rear cavity and block off the trem making sure to get a real snug fit, and as much contact as possible. works well, and removable too.

or if you want a cheap solution, get 1cent coins, stack them up and wrap them in paper/ masking tape and use it to jam the trem tight against the body.

Sounds familiar....

I recall I used $3.50. 3 x $1 coins, 2 x 20 cent coins, 1 x 10 cent coin.

filling in is actually the easiest part. wait till u get to the measurements, alignments for yr new bridge. and of course a new paint job.

so now that u understand the work involve, you should know it will cost u quite a bit. doesnt matter where you go to get this mod done, maybe saving up for your dream PGM or a fixed bridge RG will be more cost effective.
