swee lee's pricing policy.....

SUNNY: if there were no commissions why is there such a big price difference...and this does not end with just the difference between online and showroom prices....there have been cases where 2 people have bought the same product at different prices at the same time....is there no fixed price???

From my understanding, if you are referring to the showroom itself, they are in a way rather flexible. Generally, like many shops (esp in the U.S) they do have a standard discount on most items-which is 20% (for Swee Lee).
However, if you buy loads of stuff at one go, sometimes you get more discount. This is to encourage ppl to buy more. Likewise, if you buy stuff literally at a Guitar Centre Store (U.S) , they do the same to you. No difference. These ppl run with the idea of 'More purchase, More discount'. I often hear some ppl in other stores where they're prices are going at fixex price saying stuff like 'ey, i buy two instead of one, can get more discount' and the sales staff just go ' oh no no.. it's fixed price'.. and that often make the customer disappointed.. I'm also in a way dealing with customer service in my line of work so I really see that as a Flexibility instead of anything else. If they were commisioned based, i think many of you won't even get a slight discount. But think about it, how many of you actually also get discount even when you don ask for it?

And if you compare with their Online prices, you might like to look at it closely. Online prices are also based on a general 20% discount except for some 'Special Offer or Promotional' items. So like i mentioned, no difference lor.. aiyo.. somemore online buyers, get the items to send to their doorsteps inregardless of how small the item is.. rite?

Nope thats not what im talkin about  ..I am talkin abt two ppl buying ONE same product at different prices...
as for the discount...anyone who has ever checked the original price of any item as retailed in other shops knows that the price is hiked up and then given a discount on...for eg. Dimarzio pickups are retailed at 180$ in sweelle and after 'discount' they come to 135..

GC in the US works on commision.

Online prices are also based on a general 20% discount except for some 'Special Offer or Promotional' items.
Again, 20% off $255 is not $109.

I'm not sure if Swee Lee sells on commision or not. Either way is ok for me, it's a business after all. But since buyers are becoming more aware on this board, I'd rather they come clean about their policies and gain back some respect. Right now they sound like bush answering questions about the WMDs.

I just emailed Swee Lee yesterday, here's what Adam has to say.

Hello Ark,

Thank you for your feedback on our price issue.

I apologise on the behalf of the store on the misplacement of price
tag. I
had a look on the display and you were right. The price of Digitech
Bass
Synth Wah was on Bad Monkey.
The price that you saw online was accurate and you are able to obtain
the
pedal at the same price within the store.

Please do not hesitate to contact me further @ 6336 7886 for more
information.

Once again, we regret all the inconvenience caused.

Warm Regards,

Adam Teoh
Bras Basah Showroom

Adam is cool. One of the people you really should look for if you want a good experience dealing with Swee Lee. A while back I wanted to buy a Hipshot Tremsetter I had a nightmare dealing with them until I emailed and Adam attended to me. Great guy.

yeah but i alwaes see him at the counter..like he's not available to attend to gear stuff...

bluepowder you have a point.. once i asked the price of a guitar in the inner showroom at BB, two different prices from two salesmen, few hundred $$$ difference..obviously some people want more commission for themselves..so i didn't buy from SL..

oh yah, i always go to SL's website to research on the price before i take the bus to go there. whenever i ask about the price at BB, the salesperson always quote a higher price than the website. yeeeah.. i'm noob, i always assume they never update their website, therefore the price is not accurate so i pay more. but after reading this thread..whatttttttttt?????? i am thinking is it a problem where the sales ppl are not sure of the price themselves? i remember the salesperson checked the price from the computer when i asked about a particular item, and it costs higher than the website, even though she said she had given me a discount.

by the way why was sunny guy kept talking about guitar stores at U.S??? this is sweelee, singapore..

hey guys,

this is getting nowhere.. is it originally intended to be a anti-swee lee pricing policy thread or wat?

I guess the summary is that Swee Lee can be good or fucked up depending on who you are talking to or buying from when you are there.

everytime i go swee lee, i always look for adam, even if i have to wait 15 mins doing nothing

last week mi bandmates juz bought a peavey microbass amp and an ibanez rg7321

Man...that's a very very scary thing...I think what they should do is put the price tag on the guitars and stuff...like Davis...so there won't be any confusion...

It would be better to put a bigger price card instead of the little price tag sticker that they're using now..

Amen man Jem, its happened quite often... 8O
Its sad that a music shop would cheat musicians so blatantly.

Davis on the other hand is not much better in many respects.

I have also had some really really bad experiences with Davis and so has DemonoftheFall....IT IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN SINGAPORE.

There have always been complaints before about how the old man was rude, but fact of the matter-he gives true information about what Davis can do for you.The rest of the staff in Davis is appalling...You tell them you want to buy a really expensive amp and then they tell you sure stock is coming in next week ... and that they would call as soon as it arrives..you call two weeks later they say wait two more weeks...there have been cases where they have lied and made people wait for 2 months+...not only do they lie but they also keep telling you they willcall you back when they never do.(ps.the guitar tech is horrible, never give your guitar there for a setup etc)

basically..
its the same as this analogy..

we cant blame the car,for its poor driving.we can blame the driver.

if we want a smooth ride, get a good driver and avoid the bad ones.

..goddamn it.

i forgot wad i wanted to say.

smokes.

Is Davis really that bad? 'Coz all the times I've been there, be it buying stuff or changing stuff, the staff there have been pretty good to me...
