swapping bridges

hi

i was thinking of swapping my lo-TRS with the new edge pro bridge. any recommendations as to where i should order the part and more importantly, who i should entrust the installation to? sweelee quoted me below $450 incl installation. anybody know the prices elsewhere?

would appreciate any help/tips. thanks!

1.Check if the new Edge Pro vibrato by Ibanez is available as off-the-shelf replacement parts. highly likely it's not... but i know the discontinued Edge/ Lo-pro Edge bridge is avaialable as spares.

2.Check if the inherent cavity in your guitar (most probably an Ibanez yes?) which houses the TRS, is suitable for the new vibrato. highly likely it needs some gouging...

3.Weigh the pros/ cons- consider buying another guitar for that kinda money, especially used units.

thanks for the info. u mentioned the Lo pro edge is available as spare? from where? and well yeah, its an Ibanez. i'm aware of the potential problem with the cavity. am in the process of weighing the pros and cons, so trying to get a quote on how much it'll cost before deciding. :wink:

Swee Lee has, i think, the last unit BUT it's gold... if memory serves me right, it'll cost you $300+/-

the copies of these list for half the price, just saw them at Davis today.

i have an acquaintance who retrofitted the Original Floyd-Rose unit in his Ibanez RG & he's happy that the vibrato didn't rob the guitar of too much low-end. however, he's moved to the Phillipines... otherwise you can test drive that one.

gee, IMO paying $400 is a little too much, it's more than half the price of a new Korean RG (which has the reputable Edge Pro II vibrato as std fitting). if you insist on having a new bridge & keeping the guitar for its sentimental value, then get a good bargain for the job.

ahh yeah i guess its a tad expensive just to replace the bridge. my guitar's a jem555 and i'm too attached to it to consider selling. the bridge is the only thing that bothers me so..hmm. oh well. gota think some more hee. thanks guys!
