Survey: Is the gear review section helpful?

Hey Sub,
Your reviews are great and pretty fair I would say... Thanks for all the time spent doing them up, I can see your love for the guitar in it. :)

My 2 cents... Hmmmm.. I guess you might want to emphasize the cons of the gear you review. You've been really nice thus far ;) But I think for the sake of ppl coming in to view them and then deciding to buy them later on, esp for newbies. ;)

i guess the reason why mr Subversion's review tend to be positive is because he only wrote reviews on the guitar that he think is positive or the guitars that worth buying

So I will take it more like a recommended buying list. If it is on his review list, it's worth a GAS

an interesting perspective, i try to review as many products as i can, desireable or otherwise. eg: JEM Jr; i'm not too keen on this guitar but i'm addressing a specific request with it 8)

hmmz , maybe a suggestion would be to include those small tables at the end of some reviews , to summarise the + and - points ?

that's a good one. if you see me adopt this new format, then you know where i got the idea from... 8)

Subversion, I think the descriptions of the products you're reviewing helps a lot, esp the pedals, cos without the reviews, I usually dunno what those things do (if the name of the pedals are not explicitly clear). And putting down the price gives me a good idea of what I'm geting into if I'm considering getting a particular product. As for ratings, how often do we base our decisions on them entirely anyway? Trying things out for ourselves is still the best way to go.

thanks! trying pedals is really a chore especially when they require a power adaptor. i dislike troubling the shop's staff in setting them up for me, but the people who let me try them are really obliging & super-friendly. i salute you! :smt023

if you drop by a store & decide to try pedals, i hope you chip in by helping the store staff in packing up after your audition. which reminds me of the Prime Minister's National Day Rally, specifically relating to the 'Tauge Not Enough' video clip...

hey why don't we chip in too, like review products we've bought or tried b4, i was thinking of trying out the behringer sansamp and reviewing it

you're the man subversion!.....we guys wud be lost w/o u wen it comes to gears....but most of the brands u do r fender ibanez n stuff....is dere any other gd stuff out dere?....i mean not dose mainstream type...say takamine...and heritage...heritage i heard QC v gd...takamine i hear its guitars r not bad too...mayb a little insights into dis brands wud be wonderful....n prolly reviews on amps wud be gd too..haha...juz my 2 cents.

btw i'm a friend of s.t.a.r.s....u noe the guy wif dat squier bullet

bro sub's reviews are definitely comprehensive and straight to the point. To buy or not to buy, is up to readers to weigh the pros and cons listed by him and give it a test drive at respective shops.

As of all reviews, regardless in magazines or sites like harmony central....imho it is very subjective, not in a negative sense. It's what the reviewer feels it is, maybe the reviewer and 10 other guys think that this telecaster sounds damn twangy and sweet but when you go try it, it sounds like a les paul to you? *wouldn't really happen but hope you guys get the drift*

I'm glad there's a Gear Review section and subbie's doing all the reviews on upcoming stuffs and certain requests, at least it gives all of us a general "picture" of how some gears are.

P.S: +1 on more pickup reviews sub

the gear review section is very helpful. wayy cool. it will b better though if u can say more "bad" stuff abt the item on review. i mean like reali critisice it. coz it helps potential buyers make their descision if they know the cons abt the product. juz wana point this out coz most of the stuff on review have live 4 stars.

then again i should haf thought b4 typing. y do a review on a bad product rite?

juz my 2 cents

The review section is wonderful indeed. Crazy Idea, Imagine if Swee Lee employs Subversion as a professional gear reviewer, and get gets to do videos ....

Imagine:

Today we will be reviewing the Ibanez xxx123, your host, Subversion! ..

Ok I'm nuts.

I don't think the recording is such a feasable idea after all. Firstly, the sound quality of the recordings using hand held devices(i'm assuming) won't be able to give an accurate reflection of the tone. Plus if it's to be hosted here, sure to have problems with bandwidth as there would be so many recordings and people downloading.

Secondly, you've gotta go down to the store and try the piece of gear to find out if you're really like it so yea. Reviews should give the general idea, the pros and cons. The rest, is up to the player/buyer. Just my thoughts, hope you guys don't smoke me for it!

splendid! i was wondering why players are not saying something about their gear...

Probably shy hehe

Btw, Thanks for helping us all out man!!! :smt023

Great work Sub ... with the price and details and tryout ... u save us alot of time searching on the net. Good job!

indeed it is man! not many have the ability to produce a proper write-up/review for those stuff. i know the swee lee guys likes/loves him. he's a great person. i believe the rest of the shops treats him well too! keep it up sub.

ok let me clarify my stars rating:

5 Stars: Superb! No that it's flawless/ unbecoming, but it meets the manufacturer's intention parallel to the philosophy they are putting forth. eg: Fender's Highway1

4 Stars: This guitar would otherwise get a 5star rating except for a major questionable feature

3 Stars: Above average but nothing fantastic, some unnecessary features which add mainly to cost, but not to tone/ playability

2 Stars: A guitar in manifestation but an overhaul needed to make it more playable/ tonally viable. but you'd end up paying as much as the guitar's price/ more for the overhaul, so it's more sensible to opt for others...

1 Star: Major let-down.

i would like a more precise rating, maybe an upon 10 option- James?

Never disclose your handphone number on the net bro...your monthly bills will probably get you another axe

On a serious note, i love reading not only your reviews, but also your posts in the "Gear News" thread. Keep up the good work Bro! :smt038 :smt023 :smt038
