OMG!!!
wahaha...T_T
i wanna cry already!i got a very bad headache trying to decide what gear to get...

http://soft.com.sg/forum/gear-guitar/151579-just-starting-out-muse-ic.html

using the link above as reference,as you all can see...i'm looking forward to getting myself geared with some good stuff this holiday!in my thread i have stated that i want to sound like MUSE,but then come to think of it...there's actually alot more bands i like to sound like at some point(eg.Green Day,MCR).so i've decided to renew my criteria...

instead of wanting to sound exactly like MUSE,i think i will just take up MUSE's musical style, with an emphasis on VARIETY OF SOUNDS.
so,now what i'm looking for is versatility...being able to create a wide array of different sounds with my gear.

so i think here's what i'll need to get this season: electric guitar, multi effects pedal, amplifier.

here're some gear that has been recommended to me in my previous thread/some stuff i've been considering(btw budget is around like $800?):

Guitar - Smash S2
http://standardvalue.com.sg/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=444
- Rally LP GL Series
http://standardvalue.com.sg/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=488
- Ibanez SA260FM
http://www.ibanez.com/ElectricGuitars/model-SA260FM

Multi Effects - Zoom G2.1U
http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/g21u/
- KORG AX3000G
http://www.korg.com/product.aspx?pd=235
- BOSS ME50
http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=534&ParentId=248

AMP - Sound Drive SG-10
http://standardvalue.com.sg/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=85
- Vox Pathfinder 15
http://www.voxamps.com/us/pathfinder/pathfinder15/

PS:i've got my heart set on the Smash S2,the BOSS ME50 & maybe the SOUND DRIVE SG10.my reason for the Smash S2 is because it looks great.the BOSS ME50 is "user-friendly".SOUND DRIVE SG10 so i can get it together with the S2 from SV!:)
i'm open to more suggestions but please, give me valid pros/cons of what your suggesting so i can compare & contrast more accurately which features...
my biggest headache now is really the multi effects.the Zoom doesn't really sound appealing to me le.but between the KORG and the BOSS...can't decide.
also not sure if the Smash, whislt good looking, provides me the platform for variety of tones.and amp-wise,i don't know if i should just get a modded amp or a simple clean amp like the ones i mentioned.
HEADACHE AHHHHH!SAVE ME PLEASE,S.O.F.T.ies,wahhhh!!!

PS:remember, versatility is what i'm looking for, given that i'm a beginner.and versatility is also the way of the MUSE,LOL!

edit: oh yes,i also wanna take this chance to thank everyone and anyone on S.O.F.T who has helped me in one way or another.through S.O.F.T,i have come to learn of things such as "action",you know, multi effects, etc, etc.really been a great learning journey.KEEP IT UP S.O.F.T.ies,newbies like me need more people like YOU!!! <3

hello!thanks for the fast reply!
the line 6 multi effects???unfortunately,i think they don't fit my budget.:(

I can attest to the Smash S2..It definitely looks great and feels great! Brought a friend down to SV one day cos he wanted to buy an electric. Of course, I tried the S2 too and it was wonderful, to say the least. Action was nice and low, (not too low, but I like that) neck felt great and it sounded good too, but maybe that's because of the amp we tried it out of heh

Same friend brought it to jamming sometime after, and through a 4x12 it sounded good too, definitely no lack of quality there!

As for multi-fx, how about looking into the second-hand section on SOFT? Don't be discouraged simply because it is second-hand..Both my guitars are bought second-hand, so is my amp (Washburn 15w) and as long as you check it thoroughly beforehand I don't think you will bump into alot of trouble.

As I'm inexperienced with multi-fx, aren't there cheaper versions of Line 6 PODs? like the pocket pod etc? Just throwing it out there ;)

Personally, I don't have much experience as the other guys, but I would vouch for the Smash S2 Lite if you can take the Natural finish on it or the normal S2. I have tried it before and it felt good and sounds versatile. Heck, any Smash or Swing guitar is good for the price.

But for the amp, I would recommend at least trying out the Roland MicroCube which would set you back about $170 from Swee Lee, and drop the multi-efx. I myself use the MC and it sounds acceptable for practice to me, without being too loud and being loud enough for the 'shiok'-ness times when you get to crank it up:twisted:. It can go from very sparkly cleans in the JC Clean model, to the crunchy Classic Stack(Read Marshall) and even to metal tones with the Rectifier model. This way you don't even need to rely on any pedals for your drive tones, other than fuzz of course. It even has some delay/echo effects and modulation effects with limited controls. And in case you want to add pedals to your line-up, the MC takes pedals pretty well.

Just in case you want to know, I am using a MIM Fender Strat into a Korg Pitchblack tuner and straight into the MC. I sometimes use my Danelectro OD or TS7 for more saturation, but right now, I want to practice more with my hands, rather than my feet;). I hope this helps!

i'm still with my recommendation of the rally LP, korg ax3000g, n vox pathfinder.

the korg is cheaper than the boss by a good 100bux from what i see in 2nd hand prices. the korg is easy to use too. if u cant handle the korg, u've got a long way to go.

u wanna have multi efx. whats the modelling of the amp do? just get a good clean amp. i just know of the vox and a fender frontman as good clean amps.

haha,thanks for the replies guys.
i'm probably going to get the Smash S2(since it has one single-coil and one humbucker->more variety of sound).has anyone been down to SV to try these guitars lately?wanna know how's the QC today.cos' people have been saying that Epiphones are now having quite bad QC unlike when they were first produced by Rally.
about modelling amps.you see,the thing is,i wanna know if mod amps have effects that are equivalent to those of a multi effects unit.then if it's the same effects, might as well just get a mod amp?
ok,but let's say if i were to get a multi effects.i'm only considering the BOSS ME-50 because people say it's user friendly, easy to use.then i stumbled upon somewhere that it doesn't have mod amp features...so i'm guessing the user-friendliness makes up for the lack of effects actually?and theunknown, the korg is easy to use?i thought people have been saying it's hard to use. o_O
or am i thinking about the wrong pedal, lol.between the G2.1U,the BOSS and the KORG,the AX3000G has the most effects right?getting that then, lol.

it's strange the way you talk about QC. "oh, i heard other ppl say last time QC good. oh, i heard other ppl say now QC bad". why don't you go down and do your own QC instead of relying on other ppl's opinion about QC in general, which doesn't apply to individual guitars sold in the shops at all.

i would if i know how to differentiate what's a good quality guitar and what's a poor quality guitar.as mentioned in my threads,i'm a newbie with 0% experience when it comes to handling a guitar.i probably couldn't tell the difference between a gibson les paul & an epiphone lp special II !!!and asking the opinions of people more experience than me is better than going there to try out myself.because even if i go there try out,i wouldn't even know what to look out for.meanwhile, peeps on S.O.F.T.ies will mention things that i didn't take note of before, for eg.i learnt of action through HERE.

anyway, take things you read with a pinch of salt. and what other people like may not be what you like, what works for others may not work for you.

TS: i see that u have quite a few personal friends who u mentioned u heard these things from. why not ask them to follow u to test the gear?

most of what we tell u here are based on our opinions. i say the korg is great cause i owned one before. i cant compare it with anything else. go and try for urself. ease of use? try and see for urself, go to city music. im sure they are willing to help.

Smash makes really good guitars but like someone pointed out here, the S2 Lite with the natural finish is a really well-built guitar. Plays and sounds much better than the rest of the Smash guitars.

Amp wise, I really think you should consider Vox ADxxVT series. Plenty of good tones to sculpture your tones from. That way you can avoid the need for a multi-effects unit.

At the end of the day, to effectively cover Muse, I think you need a fuzz pedal that is slightly over-the-top. No mfx unit can do a fuzz patch remotely close to an actual analog piece..

hey, what's the difference between the S2 Lite and the other S2s?as far as i can see, only difference is the finish of the neck...hardware wise everything is the same???

lol, yeah.i'm bringing a friend with me to SV this wednesday.but i also wanna get more opinions on what i'm doing.safer that way, than just relying on my friend, cos he has only been playing guitar for 2 years, not very experienced compared to others here.i call this "gathering intell" lol.

haha likewise, only started last feb, and even then it was on-and-off owing to JC life (or lack of). Facing my A's now so I'm sad to say my planks have not been getting much TLC..

But I digress.. anyway, the people at SV are nice and I'm sure they wont want to jack you..just go there and ask for their help and I'm sure they would gladly assist you! Service whenever I visit SV (either branch) has always been good (well, when I'm not just stopping by for strings anyway) and they sure can help you out. Compared to us, I'm sure they are the ones who truly know what they are selling, while we have tested and can give comments, the ones who truly know the guitars are them (hopefully, hehe..) and therefore you should ask for their opinions

As mentioned, take everything you read online with a pinch of salt! ;)

i'll second that.
but i have a boss ME50
yea it's user friendly. but beware of the many effects they say they have. not all are of a good sound quality. you probably can get a decent distortion and a so/so delay out of it, the rest; such as the phaser and flanger effects are probably average/below avg. yea but some of the other sounds are crap.
and it also has a loop pedal which can record stuff for like 2 secs? rubbish man

im pretty new to guitar too.

Guitars i would recommend 2nd hand jus incase u don like it after awhile. Every guitar has its own pros and cons. so feel free to give each and every guitar a shot when youre trying out. jus have a feel of the neck even if you dunno how to play. RG feels perfect for me.

Amps, i suggest a roland cube 20x or 30x. 20 x i just got it ytd for 273SGD.

alot of built in efx which i reckon is enough to cover songs by muse.

If that is not enough, try line 6 pod farm.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8IkCI3mwKk (it is mainly used for recording)
well, fark wat ppl say. i use it to go with my amp and jam arnd with diff efx and sound im looking for.
