Suitable Bass Strings.

Hello there fellow soft-ians!

Actually, I've been dying to ask opinions from you guys. Its just that I do not have time to open a new thread. So here it goes!

Currently, I'm using a Schecter Diamond Series Deluxe-4 bass guitar. The stock strings that came together when I bought it are not a bad ones, but its getting rusty! So I've decided to change it. But when I stepped into a guitar shop, I was amazed by the number of types and brands of bass strings! I've tried Ernie Ball Extra Slinky before on my old bass. But so far, I've heard other better brands such as Rotosound etc. So the point is, which bass strings would you recommend to me? I'm currently playing Alternative Punk Rock, so I need strings that can withstand strong strummings and pickings. So what are your recommendations? I'm open to listen to every of it from you guys!

Cheers.

D'Addario makes good strings for the price, $20. if you've got some extra cash to spend, i'd recommend Rotosound Swing 66 for $30. quite bright initially, but they sound nice when after they're broken in. i've heard DR is good too, but quite ex. all can be found at Davis.

i would try Sadowsky Blue Labels too, but i decided to go for the Rotos instead. about the same price at TYMC.

i think it's very hard to define the kind of tone a particular string will give... different strings will yield different results with different basses.

trying out strings is a very expensive process. i remember buying a set of DR extra life's, but i just didn't like them. they cost quite a bit and even though i didn't like them, i played through them... i didn't want to simply throw away and waste a set of strings like that!

then i tried the sadowsky blue labels, and they really did it for me. i have 2 packs as backup. i only change every 6 months or so, so that's gonna last me awhile.

so basically although i'd like to try new kinds of strings, i can't afford to change often or change them just because they don't work out :)

oh... thanks guys for all the opinions. but what about ernie ball's bass string? no comment for them?

i haven't tried them for myself, but i've heard lots of bad stuff about them, like the strings dying quickly etc.

EB makes decent strings for short scale basses, their regular strings are less than desirable. Go DR or Sadowsky!

For the DR strings, which one to choose? they got different kind of sets. The hi-beams etc. Help me out! getting one by this weekend. Kinda interested in DR strings and might wanna try it first. Maybe after six month, then trying the sadowsky blue label. hehe! Recommend me something from DR thats good to you. =)

hi beams are round core (i think) so its supposed to be softer to the touch. lo riders are hex core so they are stiffer. extra life is coated

 i know TYMC is the relatively new sadowsky dealer, but i never checked their prices for the strings. street price for a sadowsky set of 4 (regardless blue or black) is more or less the same as other brands at around US$20-25 (US$22.50). any other difference, you would have to question the dealers

the Sadowsky strings go for about $30 a pack at TYMC. not that ex compared to DR strings, about $35 i think.
