Suggestions for a 76 key k'board

Helo folks,

i currently hv a yamaha sy77. thing is, while i like it's unique sounds, i can't quite figure how 2 program it etc. it is also a heavy monster, and i can't pack it away. i also find 61 keys restrictive.

so i am considering trading it for something else.

1) i started out in piano, but am ok with 76 keys semi-weighted
2) i want 2 learn composing in midi, tweaking sounds etc
3) instruments i'll prob use a lot: piano, pads/ percussion, guitar, orchestral strings, woodwind
4) music type: folk/acoustic/rock/the occasional churchy/gospel type
5) i like s0nicbrat's stuff, ben harper

6) i have VERY limited space: do not have my own room, work table area about 1.2 x 1.2m
7) budget: $500+/-

I haven't invested in any software, midi-to-usb interfaces, all i have are 1 synth, 1 foot controller, 1 sustain pedal, k'board stand, some midi n audio cables, 1 old roland sound module (quite limited), 1 set computer speakers, which work fine but are not excellent.

could some1 help me with the setup i shld be getting?

1) shld i get a midi controller/ synth? (home use only, but if can pack away all the better) any recommendations? modulation wheel is a must, since i want to control strings, reverb, etc. breath controller also wld b nice.

more keys the merrier, i did look at korg x50 since i can shove it in the cupboard but it has 61 keys which feel bad :-( looked at yamaha's mm6 - better feel, but sounds tinny and it's quite large.

2) don't like novation controller's keys, prefer cme, but don't know if it suits what i want 2 do

3) is cubase le enough 2 start with? i went to Resolution, chatted with a nice fellow & he recommended tt i buy this keyboard to pc interface box-like thing with cubase le bundled.

i was initially considering a midi to usb cable + sequel/cakewalk/cubase essentials

THANK YOU

consider yamaha NP-30 which is 76 semi-weighted piano style keys with midi IO. or use back the SY77.

for midi control u can get korg nano kontrol with 9 knobs, 9 faders, 18 buttons and 6 transport buttons.

for sequencing and VSTs u can try searching for freeware from kvraudio.com.

all well within your 500+ budget.
