Hi guys, this is my plan for my new home studio.
Luna Condensor Mic ( M-audio), Mic stand
Audiophile 192 soundcard (m-audio),
M-audio FireWire 410 Mobile Recording Interface
Yamaha Mixer $199 (forgot the name)
Yamaha Monitor Speakers around 640$(per pair)
Pro Tools M-Powered
A new DAW ( I intend to get intel 3.2ghz,2gb ram,Old gfx card,Cd-rW,Old monitors)
Cables
What you guys think? Total amout will be around 5k or less if some items can get 2nd hand or cheaper lol..

Consider
1) An Athlon64 system on a nForce3 motherboard eg Gigabyte K8NS Ultra - suppposed to be quite good and stable on some other audio sites that I visit.

2) Try to get 1 computer vendor to fix up your system - if anything goes wrong, he does not hve the chance to blame anyone else.

3) It is better to get a better audio interface than 2 as in this case.

4) A moderate size hard disk eg 80-120gb for main programs and a large sized one eg 250gb or more for audio program.

your set up very similar to mine, whats with this m-powered thingy?

do they give you pro-tools? or you have to buy it seperately ?

For the computer side, i've already got an expert to help me .

I've read your post on my other thread and i understand liao. But the delta 1010 comes with a PCI card? I connect the dock to the card then how to connect the dock to my soundcard? The reason of me wanting the interface is for more outputs and inputs , and a phantom power( but the delta 1010 doesnt seem to have this ) and most important mic ins!! Delta 1010 doesnt have mic in! and how come its so much more expensive than firewire 410? i dont get it. It seems to be "lousier" IMO..
btw, do u have msn? we can chat, can u add me at Flaming_Boi@hotmail.com

btw, if i get the audiophile 2496 then there will be no errors rite? If i get the firewire 410 and audiophile 2496, then it'll work perfect?

another question, if u call audiophile and firewire audio interfaces, then do i still need to get a soundcard to get good sound from my work?

thx alot for your help!

Nono, its pro tools m-powered. means that it now works with m-audio equipments :D.. Its just pro tools that supports m-audio products :)..

- the delta 1010 comes with a cable to connect the breakout box (which you call the dock) to the PCI card.

- it does not come with phantom power (so it is not suitable for you)

>> and most important mic ins!! Delta 1010 doesnt have mic in! and how come its so much more expensive than firewire 410?

- you could consider the delta 1010 LT (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Delta1010LT-focus.html)

- which comes with phantom power

- it does not come with a dock (but actually it is not important but it depends on the way you work)

- if you don't forsee pluging and unpluging everything all the time or if you use a patchbay, then the dock or breakout box is not important.

>> i dont get it. It seems to be "lousier" IMO..

- it is not lousier - it comes with 10 in and 10 out whereas the Firewire 410 comes with only 4 in and 10 out so if you need a lot of inputs, it is not for you.

- if you prefer more in and out in a firewire package, look at the Firewire 1814.

btw, do u have msn? we can chat, can u add me at Flaming_Boi@hotmail.com

>> btw, if i get the audiophile 2496 then there will be no errors rite? If i get the firewire 410 and audiophile 2496, then it'll work perfect?

- there is no need to mix the audio interfaces in this way -> perhaps you could tell me what you need to achieve.

- more inputs? By adding a ADAT interface, you can get another 8 inputs with the Firewire 1814. (total of 16 analog and 2 digital inputs)

>> another question, if u call audiophile and firewire audio interfaces, then do i still need to get a soundcard to get good sound from my work?

- No. From my point of view, they are all "soundcards" ; just that 1 is on PCI interface and the other is on firewire.

>> thx alot for your help

- No problem.

Ok, i actually want to achieve quite good quality recording . Next, connecting outputs to a mixer to do a monitor check. And work on my projects.

I think i'll get delta 1010LT ( this is a "dock" ) rite? and the audiophile 192 or 2496.. thx

I still don't understand why you need 2 audio interfaces.

I think you can get the Delta 1010LT then get a mixer
currently RON from blueprint studios is selling this 32 channel Alesis mixer for 800 bucks plus delivery, the main catch for the mixer is the DIRECT OUTs,

so you can actually use mixer as a frontend to the 1010 with all the phantom power and mic ins line-ins whatever.

better setup

1. ADK microphone, cheap and good. (..psstt..I am their dealer so don't take my word too much..:)...)
2. Maudio firewire 410 or better if you need more info. their preamp is decent.
3. yamaha MSPA5 or ESI near05.
4. DAW *better built yourself* just ask around people over DAW forum such nuendo.com or else
5. Protools is fine here, but if you want to go with VST instrument ( or virtual instrument). nuendo/cubase are much better.
6. headphonse for recording or just checking your mixes.
you don't need mixer since you can direct monitoring from your soundcard. this setup could be change easily depend on your need.
my 2 cents

Too much planning kills!!! I reckon you don't plan too much..
Just start with your PC, buy the parts, or upgrade from your present PC. Then move on to a mic, or mixer, or nearfield monitors.
You will realise your agenda starts to change when you discover things like sales going on here and there, also people selling 2nd hand items..

i plan to get everything new at one time.. will be waiting for end of yr for sales to start ^^.. then i start to get my stuff haha.. i really need to plan this, im not gona "anyhow" do this.
