has anyone tried any of the above?

the ibanez 605 seems to be equipped with pure BASSLINES unlike it's brother the 505, which has ibanez duncan designed pickups.
BodyQuilted Maple top/Mahogany
Neck 1pc. Maple
Fretboard Rosewood
Pickups front - Seymour Duncan Basslines SJB / rear - Seymour Duncan Basslines SMB
Bridge Accu-Cast B205
Hardware Chrome
Preamp EQB-2D 2-band eq w/EQ on-off switch

VS

fenderJB75-90US
Body Ash
Neck Maple, Oval Shape, 432mm Scale
Fretboard Maple One Piece or Rosewood, 184R
Frets 20, Vintage Style
Nut Width 38mm
Pickups J-Bass Vintage (U.S.A.) x2
Control&Switch 2 Vol, 1 Tone
Bridge Vintage
Machine Heads Regular Type
Hardware Chrome
Pickguard 3-Ply White (NAT) or 3-Ply Black (3TS)

both are listed at the same price, i'm weighing the values of both now...

i love the 5 string, even tho the low B is only used 5%, and the body has a quilt maple top, transparent black finish... matching headstock... EQ bypass switch ( i like passive ) ibanez thin neck (whoohoo) and at 18mm string spacing it's ideal for fingerstyle.

i love teh fender for it's reliability, a nice natural finish for the ASH body, and pure passive tone.

=( how!!!

while i'm at it, if any of you are thinking about making an ishibashi purchase, drop me a pm. we can all join our orders and save on shipping!

the RD has a split-coil switch for the humbucker, which i like/ find useful.

yeah!! and the bypass switch too! and it's 24 frets! and it's 5 string!

but up against a fender J... =/

Personally, I'm partial towards Jazz Basses......and Ash ones in particular, but that's purely subjective.

Objectively, your choice should really be narrowed down to the sound you are looking for, and which bass comes closer to it.

For example, the tone that I seek is typically one with a tight bottom end and really articulate top end. Notes must possess a certain degree of clarity and there MUST be some growl when I need it.

As such, I gravitate towards Ash bodied Jazz Basses and thick maple necks and fretboards.

Just my two cents worth, hope it helps! :)

that's the one, in BLK. it comes in 2T, BLK, NAT, VWH.
should'nt have any problems with NATural ash and a maple neck colour, thinking of getting the black 3ply pickguard instead of the white.

and the block fret markings are kinky. the original model comes with white pearloid block markings instead.

man, that's like a Geddy without the Badass bridge.

And yes, possible Ishibashi MO on the horizon!

In the quest for tone, most of us try to envision the good things that come with possibilities, and in your case an Ibanez vs a Fender Jap Jazz. I went through close to 15 basses this year (personal record). Before that, I stuck to ONE bass for years. If I've learned anything about buying stuff, its to probably think of dislikes instead of fantasizing about the good things. So pardon my negative opinions, and i hope it helps:

RD605: I only tried the 405 and 505. My best guess is that the 605 will just sound slightly better. If you happen to have any expectations of the bass, compared to jazzes, musicman, or even Lakland, don't expect this bass to match tonally. Not even close. But it is definitely way more versatile than a Precision, to say the least.

Fender JB 75-90US: I tried about 5 Fender Japs and own 2. All different models and they are very different. My personal take on Jazz basses - they are workhorses. Regardless of their natural tone, the pickup config alone can take you places. Being a passive instrument, you can use effects on it easily(esp. fuzzes). It will make alot of things simple and IMO makes your right hand more versatile in time to come.

In summary, active vs passive, modern clone vs classic child, 5 string vs 4 string, 24 vs 20 frets.

Bon Voyage!

 you know you want it!

hey guys, thanks for all your insights, really appreciate it alot... right now i'm focused on getting the fender with the black block inlays, ishibashi MO!

Great choice!

The black block inlays simply ooze vintage-style MOJO!

Slap on a Leo Quan Badass II and the circle with be complete! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

You KNOW you Sooooooo want it!

Very good clarity and punch, while still retaining the natural tone of the bass. Greatest invention ever!
