Strings snapping while playing

I was practicing on my guitar like usual, but suddenly, when i was playing the high E string, it snapped. I knew my guitar strings were rusty, but i've never heard of a rusty guitar string snapping before.

I'd like to ask, what's wrong with what I'm doing? Is my picking too hard? From what I can see, the string isn't very rusty, and was changed around a week or two ago.

Ahlow, rusty means decay, means material is weakened, means easier to snap lah...

Its probably your picking that caused it, although once cannot rule out burrs on your saddle or possible bad frets where the string is being weakened, usually by fret's which is uneven and played through.

IF STRINGS DONT BREAK - THEN HOW THE STRING MANUFACTURERS GONNA STAY IN BIZNESS?

HINT: GET THE NEW ERNIE BALL TITAINTIUM STRINGS - THEY REALLY DO LAST ... I use them almost exclusively these days

rust isn't the exclusive account of why strings snap; it could be due to other factors:

*sharp fret
*sharp nut
*sharp string saddles

it could also fundamentally mean that the string itself was fragile from source (over at the factory).

Agreed with this point. Make unbreakable stainless steel strings then close shop.

They really do last?. I have yet to try them. Sick of my strings getting rusty so easily. :(

Elixirs never die~ they just suddenly one day decide to sound bad.

But that day takes months~ New strings every 2 weeks or 1x 20+bucks on a pack of Elixirs for months?

You decide.

It's still a string of steel and metal. It will still rust, but their coated with a nano-tech polymer to last longer.

I think.

Think of it as a beauty product to make your strings look younger and not let grime n dirt destroy your tone.

Does this nano-tech polymer thing, does it works? what about those who have wet palms? does it help? becoz of this condition had mad me stepback in buying an elixir pack

I have sweat that gunks bridges and nitro easily, and Elixir's still last me about 3-5months depending on how much I play or wipe them down.

Chill and try it. You don't try you don't know.

Unlike smoking. Heh. If you don't know, don't try. If you try already, you will always either be a smoker or ex-smoker, not a non-smoker.

FOR PPL WHO BREAK STRINGS ....

String Saver ™ saddles are made with a unique combination of materials made to enhance tone and dramatically reduce string breakage.
How do they work? A string resting on a metal saddle binds and locks the string in place. As the string vibrates, it stresses the string on a very specific point producing metal fatigue and then string breakage. Each

String Saver™ saddle is impregnated with Teflon, the slipperiest substance on earth. The Teflon in String Savers eases the grip between the saddle and string, spreading the stress over a greater portion of the string, just enough to drastically reduce string breakage. Teflon is 500% more slippery than graphite and is impregnated throughout the String Saver material, so its lubricating properties will never wear out. For string breakage reduction the difference is dramatic. Strings that last and last, no matter how hard you play...we guarantee it!
What do they sound like? Metal saddles have a pronounced 2 KHz treble spike that dominates the tonal spectrum. String Saver™ Originals have a more balanced tone, with sizzling highs, full mids, and big open lows. You will also notice an increase in sustain by up to 25% over brass saddles and 15% over steel.
  • Reduces string breakage
  • Increases sustain
  • Improves midrange depth
  • Super lubricating
  • Improves tuning
  • Corrosion resistant
  • Inspires confidence
What do they fit? Our String Saver saddles for Floyd Rose are designed to fit original Floyd Rose, Floyd Rose II, Schaller Floyd Rose, and other licensed Floyd Rose bridges. Will not fit Edge Lo-pro or Edge Pro. Call for information on the original Ibanez Edge.

Hi bro, from my personal experiences strings snapping is probably you are bending your strings too much. to avoid such things to happen you'll probably want to get thicker strings like gauge 10 and 11 they are much thicker and more suitable if you are playing songs that require hammer-on alot of bending and stuff. and as for string brands i'll say that SL is a cheap yet good brand Ernie ball, pyramid, DR strings are good too. Good luck.
