String spacing question

Hi all, need your help on something here...

I'm thinking of changing my current tele's stock bridge out for the wilkinson bridge. The string spacing for my tele is 10.5mm whereas the wilk one measures a 10.8mm. Is this difference acceptable or will modification be required?

Thanks in advance!

CyanideJunkie,

if string through body may cause slight misalignment due to ferrules spacing
should be alright for top loaders, u may also want to take note of the cavity width for gap
I'm not sure for jd but stagg tele fits nicely without the need for us to reposition the 4 screw holes

the slightly wider bridge spacing would also affect both the E strings palcements, moving them both closer to the fretboard edges. i've read elsewhere players experiencing strings slipping off the frets, namely because they play fast.

why are you changing the entire bridge assembly? 8-)

I actually wanted to just change my current steel saddles to threaded brass ones but couldn't find a local vendor who sells them, so I decided to just swap out the entire bridge for the wilk one since it comes with compensated saddles.

I read on tprdi.com that brass saddles actually contribute a warmer tone with better balanced highs and lows whereas steel has a more marked treble presence. Made me want to do the swap just to see what it would sound like haha...

i don't deny that the material used for making the bridge could have an impact on tone, but i would imagine it would be minimal compared to the difference in tone due to the DESIGN of the bridge.

got to factor more on the body wood, the mother of all source for the tone?

but feel mine is the other way around, brass more to zinggy/twangy than steel?

the bridge material used also got different grade.. cheap, not so cheap & really not cheap ones..

i've got that e string issue on my strat, even with usa neck+usa bridge, dont know why like that also?

have not encountered on tele neck yet, hopefully not.. can be annoying to perfectionist but im ok with it...

maybe due to my slow hands? heheheh...

:p
