Anyone knows how to use the string cleaner properly?

I mean, I always kanna the fretboard when I use... and the pickup etc...

Any ways to prevent it?

What will happen to the fretboard when the solution comes in contact with the fretboard? coz mine no polish on top one leh...

Thanks thanks!

try a GHS fastfret polisher for strings ... can get at luthermusic, davis, G77 or musictheme ... all at pennisular ... :)

i bought some at yamaha the other day., havent really used it yet but i just gently rub it on my strings. dont press too hard coz it will get on my fretboard.

maybe someone cann tell me a beter way?

cos i guese using strings cleaner/polish solution will make the strings last longer thus save $$?? haha....

but when i use, it always touches my fretboard... kind of worry cos dunno what is the effect of it....

by the way, will it affect the sound when i use the cleaner???

Anyone can help me out here??

Thanks!!!

hurhur i just use lighter fluid and clean my stirings.

put a bit on cloth and wrap it ard the string and wipe.

i recently got a Fast Fret .... i use it everyday, and after a week ... the thing goes dry and brown ... i have to rub it over the strings many time to "induce" the "liquid" to get on the strings ...

so at this point ... do i hv to change to new fast fret or izit still ok ? and can someone recommend anything/something better or equal to Fast Fret ?

i heard it can last a long time leh ... !!!

one ting i don like but also don mind abt the Fast Fret is dat everytime i rub it on my strings ... the cotton comes out abit!

Thanx in advance!
Cheers!

Hmm.

For me, I used to use a jim dunlop type of string cleaner. Instead of using the 'head' of the cleaner, I would tip the bottle over and induce the liquid onto a cloth (i.e. a folded bandanna) and use the cloth to wipe the strings instead.

If the cloth get a little too dirty due to the amount of dirt from the strings over a long time, I just throw it into the washing machine and voila: clean cloth once again.

But this method does not apply to the 'fastfret' with the wooden handle.. remember that I used the jim dunlop bottle type.

Hhmmm ok ... but my fast fret is now brown!

so naturally i would wanna change to another fast fret or get some other new string cleaner!

but the gys said it can last a long time!

so im confused now!
i can still the the "juice" out from the fast fret after rubbing my strings roughly!

Q! > do i change to another fast fret OR change to a new type of string cleaner (any recommendations) OR is the fast fret still usable?

Thanx alot!

i'm using D'Andrea:

the formula in string cleaners (liquid type) are quite harmless to the fretboard, unless you decide to pour it all over your guitar neck...

i use ghs also, same problem.
now whenever i applied the brown brush over my strings, i hv a feeling it only makes my strings dirtier, eeeeekk..

i think better change to the jim dunlop one, sounds more appropriate to me lah..

Can always just dab the solution onto a piece of tissue. Then grab each string with the tissue and glide down?

I see no issue here actually.

the main issue with the GHS Fast Fret is that it produces build up as it is wax-based, unlike fluid cleaners. the reason i gave it up a while back. for rosewood fretboards, if there are open grains, the wax might lodge into these gaps. i hate it when that happens...

i used the DR stringlife...alittle ex la...$16 per small bottle...but its really gd...keeps my string rust free for quite a long while...but still...nth really beats a new set of strings..

So true man! i feel the same thing too! but after some continous rubbing, i can feel the lub on the strings! it reassures me but when i see the brown cotton, i wonder over again!
