Strat = Guitar Hero?

wahaha i find it damn funny when pple call certain guitars versatile. well look to dhalifs example. he uses a squier to play anything. no offence to squier. but i think the versatility part lies in the player himself or herself. the guitar is just mean to sound a certain way. like some pple swear by humbuckers for metal or heavy stuff while others use single coils. but both still play metal. kinda up to ones preference. cos even if u gave a noob a super 'versatile' guitar able to replicate all the classic guitar sounds he still wont be able to play. buying a blues worthy guitar doesnt mean u can play the blues. haha. guess ive ranted a little too long. cheerio. :D

hmmm nope i disagree that it all completely boils down to the player... true enough that diff guitars can be used to great effect for different genres. but a strat still sounds like a strat.. and a lp like an lp... different tone -- each hold their own.

no way ..even for dhaliff ... not even for vai/gilbert/joestump/satch/yjm ...they cant make a lespaul. sound as spanky as a strat.

With Eq pedals ...etc one can fatten up a strat lead tone to somewhat a lespaul-ish sound. But it'll always just sound like a fattened up strat sound and not a lespaul.

my personal dislike for lp is only due to its lack of playability , heavy weight and muddiness ( to most its called WARMTH ) personal opinion.

The Les Paul design still drops the most panties

wahaha. chanmin i didnt mean tt the player can make de strat sound like a les paul or another guitar sound like the other. i do agree tt they have their own voicing. but the versatility im refering to is like for eg joe satch can use tt one guitar to play practically any genre. now dats wat i call versatility. haha. this i suppose we might agree on. cos a gd player will be able to play anything on any guitar. saw this guy in sg play flight of de bumblebee same speed as john petrucci on a tgm strat. now hows dat for killer. 8O

Haha, din expect so many heated replies by defenders of the Ibanez and LP pple.. it's the fingers that make the guitar hero lahhh.. I was only wondering why the strat was so popular.. guess it's due to versatiiliy.

Pier.

Lolx

hi guys,

imho, if e versatility of e sound is solely up to the player itself, den y do all e guitar manufacturing companies come out w so many different designs & pickup settings? y not stick to jus 1 pickup config & let it play all genres of music?

hehe jus something for u guys to ponder over :)

Re: Lolx

diff guitars and pups give diff tones..so every guitarist can sound different.

imagine what the world would be like if only les pauls were made and only SD customs were on offer. 8)

Hmm

If so, does dat means Joe Satch can use his Ibanez to play all genres of music? im not v sure abt dat.

How about asking Metallica to play Blues with their ESP guitars? or Zakk Wylde to play Contemporary with his Gibson Les Paul?

I seriously need an answer for these qns. Anyone can help me?

guitar manufacturers are commercial entities & they have a commercial ulterior motive, otherwise, they'd be content with just one product to keep them running- which isn't the case to date, with any manufacturer.

in economics, product differentiation occurs if the buyer deems a particular product to be different, despite it being very similar, take the COKE vs PEPSI example. despite both being colas, some people prefer one over the other for personal reasons- sweeter/ stronger carbonated after taste/ etc. this example involves 2 different brand names but product differentiation occurs between the same brand names also- Fender's original '54 Strat is different from the 50th Anniversary Relic version, when essentially they are both Fenders...

we appreciate very little of such differences, but to the manufacturers, product differentitaion triggers a distinct demand curve & that's where it's all about the $$$. if you are an economics proponent, you'd know that product differentiation is about dealing with the market, because a new demand curve is triggered with every differetiation...

i'm sorry to put off those who actually don't understand what i'm blabbering about... :?

Chim-o-logy

wah!! sounds ECONOMICS to me. whEe!@! its way past my age for dat. haha. good analysis i gotta admit. u can be a sales marketing executive man!!

what sub means is that the manufacturers mess with your minds to create a PERCIEVED difference in the good or commodity that you are purchasing.

both service the same wants and same needs. both are identical in nature and technical capacities. but one is presented as different from the other. same thing , different packing to make it look different.

hey neuro. to ans ur question. yes joe satch can play any genre with his guitar. he already is a virtuoso so theres no definite genre to his music which means he has used his ibanez for almost every genre frm metal to fusion, jazz and blues. well i suppose kirk could whack out some wicked blues on his esp. n im pretty sure zakk could do some wylde contempo sounds with his les paul. :D

!?!

+1

Strat!! Oh oh oh my ah ah LOVE . . . my darling . . . I hunger for your touch!!

If onli I got cash for a Fender Start, I'd go for it.

I've been using the same strat since I started playing 9 years ago. What someone else said in another thread is right: it is a guitar that grows with you. Started off on stock single coils, went on to overwound single coils and now it's running dual hums.

It does have a sound of it's own and it boils down to the kind of tone and feel players like. I've played LP's before. They're great for that big, chunky, ballsy, in-your-face sound, but that's about all it's good for IMHO. Personally go for the strats for the versatility, replacable parts (never had a neck snapping accident thank goodness) and not getting a hernia from long periods of playing. It's a good bread and butter workhorse guitar but quite unforgiving in terms of technique.

And Ibanezes? Well, they're FAST.
