Be yourself and do what you always do when you practice. Just look to the far back of the crowd and smile. Seriously it's useful cuz it makes you more relaxed and it dazzles the audience at the same time!
Oh and keep talking to someone when you're waiting for your turn to go on stage. It takes your mind off the nervousness and also keeps your vocal chords moving. And don't start saying "HOW?! DAMN I'M SO SCARED I THINK I'LL SCREW UP". Tell yourself you'll be fine and repeat that in your head.
Of course be sure to practice before you're up for performance. It builds your confidence
I also got stage fright before last time..
but you get used to it when you sing and imagine you are the only one singing and imagine no one looking at you...
really. strip yourself and sing infront of the mirror. best open the window shades. it helps. if you can overcome that confirm you can overcome the big crowd.
Some Jack Daniels before hopping on stage never hurt either, did it?
But seriously, it's good to jump around a little, just to loosen the muscles a little, and feel a little more limbered up before going on.
My bandmates and I usually act a little crazy and jump around a little and joke around a lot more before going on. It helps to release some tension, at the risk of looking like psychotic monkeys.
What are the ways vocalists overcome stage fright/whatsoever ?[/quote]
for me.. i rely on the music to get me in the mood
after that just kick back and have fun, you'd be so in tranced with the song that you won't even notice the audience. that kinda helps to some degree.. to just transcend into some other alter ego character thing
but there's a downside to it lah.
i'm fine with singing to a crowd but i get really shy when talking to the audience in between songs. LOL. i think that's when there's no music and the alterego kinda dissipates.
am i talking crap yet
OH
i put in lots of stage fright preperatory techniques in the warmup thread
go check it out k
Stage fright is a very common problem even for experienced and famous singers. All the tips and hints sound good in theory but when you're on stage and you feel like dying, none of this advice is going to help! Alcohol is not much good either as it affects your ability to sing well.
I used to suffer very badly from stage fright. However I managed to discover a way to get over it went on to have a very successful career as a singer before I turned to teaching. As a result I decided to create a product that would help singers get rid of stage fright. It's called Absolute Singing Confidence and it's available on this page. http://www.singingmastery.com
down 4 tequila shots.. it works wonders... or u could try to put yourself into the rockstar mentality, as in, u think and u convince yourself that right there on stage is where u want to be, what u're doing on stage is what u want to do... it works..
damn.. i miss gigging... and yes, i'm an attention whore...
