yo everybody, ive just signed up to become stage crew for sonicfest 2006. ive never been one before, and when i signed up they said no experience will be needed as this will also be a great way to get exposed and gain experience as well..

but just curious...what are the various responsibilties of stage crew? anything i need to look out for and do?

thanks

sweep the floor.. coil cables, carry heavy load, climb ladder install lights and screw bulbs. Any form of work meant for unimportant people like you....what else u want?

yup,you kinda do all the shitty stuff that people dont notice, but hey, actually the crews are the one that deserve lotsa credit =)

dalai..be nice man..

lets try paint a better picture for the mess of sh*t he gt himself in..

LMAO!

kidding.

haha .... let me do the sweet talking ....

It's good that you've decided to learn from scratch to understand the operations of a stage performance. Anyway, i've never gone through that long hard road of being a stage / sound crew. But i've done it volunteerily B4 coz of insufficient manpower .... like the musicians ARE the stage crews and it can be fun. Just take it as you are helping a friend in a wedding to run errands lor .. :)

You might need to move equipments from the Lorry to the stage, Clean up the area, set-up equipments, coil cables, buy lunch for the crew, buy 9 volt batteries for the guitarist, etc. Depends on what you do ... sound? Logistics? Production? Door Sales? Usher? Or general worker?

Hi,

As far as I know for SonicFest, I haven't had to carry equipment form lorry to stage (done by the equipment company), buy lunch (it's provided), buy 9V batteries (we have extras) or what la. It's pretty simple stuff; move monitors, write down EQ settings, help out the musos with their setup and all that. After the guy at at the mixing desk, you are the musician's best friend.

That's pretty easy ...

Sounds easy la, but you're spending the entire day at one stage and moving stuff around to memorise this+that :) Actually it's kinda sai gang :(

yeah it's the kinda job no-one takes up unless u have friends gigging or you got spare time. otherwise, u're called ROADIE :D hehe.

it's fun tho, i used to do some stage crew for my secondary school and u arrange which mic goes to whom and REMEMBER it for them (so that the sound guy wont go bonkers) and stuff like that. oh and if they ask u to carry something and it's too heavy, SAY it's too heavy; don't be macho and drop it or drag it around, you might end up getting scolded.

sonicfest aye? i think i'll go for it... well HAVE FUN! the area off the stage is usually filled with lots of laughs (not too loud, u don't wanna disturb the show)
