Squier affinity mod

hey guys,

i gt an old squier affinity stratocaster.
i think dat its time i use it again.
i thinking of modding it to make it more 'playable'

i like everything about the guitar except that it doesn't hold the tuning well.

what i like to improve is the tuning stability.
What do you suggest i do?

get a new bridge?tuners?

budget:80-100

let me hear your views

or should i just get a better strat??()

For less than 80 dollars, I managed to change the tuners on my old Ibanez Gio to Sperzel Locking tuners($65) and changed the nut to bone ($8). This not only helped me improve the tuning stability greatly, but also made the guitar sustain better.

It's a common mistake to think that you need to change the bridge if the tuning is not stable, you actually need to change the nut and the tuners.

Another thing you might wanna do to get better sustain on your guitar is to change the tremolo block. Diff trem block materials add slightly diff characteristics to your guitar, because of the diff densities etc. But I have yet to experiment with that yet, so I'm not too sure how to give you advice on that.

If you want to improve the sound of the guitar, you might want to change the pickups on your guitar depending on what genre you intend to use it for etc.

How long have you not touched the guitar? You even might have to check whether the electronics are working or not and change the pots. If I'm not wrong it only costs $20 a pot to change it.

So many things to do, but with your current budget, I suggest you change the tuners and the nut first.

its been in the hardcase for 1 year alr...
everything's fine except that it doesn't stay in tune..

pickups are enough for blues so i'd keep it...
however,as i mess favour messing with the tremolo(yes i do.will try divebombing and do all kinds of crazy stuff which does not actually destroy the tremolo),it will always go out of tune(EASILY,even with slight vibrato with the tremolo)...
what i hope is to IMPROVE the situation.

i found this...
http://standardvalue.com.sg/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=207
is it worth it??

there's also callaham but too expensive for my budget...
all fender-fitted products can also fit squier,am i right?

j.custom:where do i get this locking tuner and nut?

and no,the budget doesn't include servicing.

if u whammy alot then i suggest u invest in a proper guitar with a floyd rose or similar variant. its no use playing with a strat with a standard tremolo and going crazy with the whammy, it will go out of tune. but if u're only going to do little flutters with the trem, then i suggest u try lubricating ur nut and string trees 1st before any swapping

For the Sperzel Locking Tuners I got Scott from Sound Alchemy to order for me. Or you can go find out who's the dealer for Sperzel stuff and buy from them

Bro, he just wants to upgrade the tuning stability of his strat, not get a new guitar.

J custom:where do i get the bone nut?how much wld it cost me + installing it(rather let the shop do it for me)

do i have to get locking tuners?i feel that it takes away the vintage look on the guitar.
can i just get a normal tuners which is holds the tune strongly?

thanks:)

The nut on the guitar would prolly be made of plastic, so you might wanna invest in one that's made of bone, or check out some of the Graphtech ones. Quite interesting. check it out

holy crap . did not know about this after 6years of playing. this is crap. thanks alot for enlightened .
