Eyo. Whether it's SLS or whatever else kinda training, there's always something to learn from all of them; None of them are perfect, and none of them are completely useless.
Every technique suits everyone differently, and whether it works or not depends on the vocalists' effort, not whether it's a a best-selling vocal hypotheses or old-fashioned, familiar techniques.
At the end of the day, since vocals are an intuitive and biological instrument, it's up to the vocalist him/herself who can tell which suits them best without having the least amount of strain, time, and effort on themselves.
If anyone asked me, I'd suggest trying out as many sorts of vocal training as you can and decide from there, cos all our voices, vocal problems, vocal targets, vocal styles are different.
Imo I think it makes better worth of our time sharing the "wrong teachings" of vocal teachers and their techniques and why they don't work for you, rather than promoting what works best for that individual.
Speaking of which, has anyone come across vocal teachers that do nothing but just play the piano and give you songs to sing after the the first two lessons or something?
