The UA-20 is the standard model to Edirol's rapidly expanding UA series of USB Audio Capture devices. The unit can accept input from Mic, Line and even guitar level signals. The audio is converted at 24-bit quality and is transferred to your computer via industry standard low latency WDM, ASIO, MME drivers for compatibility with all major sequencing platforms, the input signal may be also monitored directly in hardware. Outputs include analogue, digital and headphone. The built-in MIDI in and out utilize Edirol's Fast Processing Technology for super accurate MIDI timing with any sequencing software on Mac or PC platforms and can be used with both OMS or FreeMIDI drivers on the Apple Macintosh. The UA-20 requires no external power supply and is ideal for use by mobile laptop or Powerbook users. The unit ships with drivers for Windows XP, 2000, Me, 98, MacOS X, and Mac OS 9.x, 8.5 and may also be used with the native USB audio drivers that are included with both Mac & PC.

yes, its used for recording your instrument, vocal(with mic) etc into your computer.

Its only one part of the puzzle for recording music. You will need software that link up with that piece of hardware to record, arranged together, do majik tweaking, then out come the music.

so what bout the edirol one?

edited: oh, no need equipment expert, this sorta gear is actually quite basic knowledge if wanna do recording at home for fun.

or anywhere i can ge tthe UA-20 in singapore?

not too sure where to get the ua 20. Edirol is under roland and sweelee is the main shop bringing roland stuff in, if you wanna get it, might have to check with them and see if they do bring in edirol gear.

usually for recording interface, theres either usb or firewire kinda. For the difference between them, do google for it(using words like usb audio interface, firewire audio interface etc). Theres info written in depth on the difference between the two much better than what i know and write here.

Other than edirol, brands like line 6, emu, tascam, presonus, m audio, tc electronic, lexicon, motu all offer various form of product that you can use in conjuction with music arrangement software to record sound, arrange, add in effects, eq and many other more functions, to do your music.

do search round the forum here in the recording, computer forums as well, theres some infos in there useful if you are starting out on doing diy recording and stuff. If not, a quick google search will do the trick as well
