hey guys, i'm interested to step into this area. any tips or recommendations on how i should start and or what are the steps i should take? really appreciate if you guys could help. i intend to get this as a full time job.

a few things you can do by learning from hands-on :

1. learn music, learn to play musical instrument

2. learn about electrical and electronic stuff

3. help out your friends' band as sound tech

4. set up a simple home studio to produce music

A good basic knowledge on audio engineering will certainly bring you a long way.. So I suggest that you take some audio engineering courses to get you started.. Funny thing about working in this field is that sometimes, it can be as easy playing Lego and at times can be as difficult like rocket science... Also some basic electrical knowledge is handy in this field as well..

Btw, which area of audio engineering are you keen to do? Live application or studio recording??

How old are you?

SP and Lasalle both offer media technology courses that are more worth while than SAE...
Thats coming from an SAE degree holder....

If you are Christian your church probably has some kind of AV ministry that is very keen to recruit new blood and will be happy to take you in with no back ground. This can be a good way to get a basic over view of live audio, altho some churches lack the knowledge base to really do much in this area.

If you are keen on recording, then get Googling and start out trying to do some DIY home recordings, then try to make friends with someone who owns a studio and offer to be his coffee boy.

SP DMAT and RP Sonic Arts are courses to consider over Lasalle's Music Tech.
This coming from a Lasalle diploma holder.

+1 to serving in church. IMHO it's one of the best learning grounds.

No point going to lousy schools to study audio engineering. That same amount of money can use to buy gears and u end up learning the same amount of stuff, whilst still owning gears. If they school dun provide u with a range of gears from cheap to professional level, u wont be able to learn well. Nowadays with internet u can learn a lot of stuff already. Start reading up now.

Engineering is a practical thing. U nvr do it, u won't learn it. Theory can only help u understand more, but wont help u to do it well. If u have no access to the gears u cant try and learn.

I have friend a graduate from music tech or whatever fancy name. They have no idea what the meaning of having such course.
