Something regarding pickup covers

zzzzzz another sleeping thread...

That's because technically, there are no such things as pickup covers for open humbuckers unless you want to put the nickel ones. Otherwise, if you want the change colours, then it's a matter of changing the entire pickup.

The guy in the vid said it was chrome covers..not sure where to get those though..but guitar shops should have it..

EDIT:Yep,its called chrome pickup covers for that colour..you might want to take a look at this for reference

lol u make a good point there...
sigh i was thinking of getting a couple of these for christmas.....
i was looking at a page that said u need a solder to fix it?

Mike from standard value can help you install, but i believe that you have to pay him..why not head down to Davis and have a look and see whether they have any other pickup covers? You can also ask them how much for helping you install the covers.

Davis is not always crowded..try not to go during the weekends, during the weekdays lesser ppl,haha..Mike is the owner of standard value, dun tink hes the old guy,haha..If you find Davis crowded, why not take a look at the other guitar shops in peninsula/excelsior shopping centre?Im sure not only davis has pickup covers

Mike old? haha. You can get him to install your pickups at Standard Value. If you have some soldering skills, you can DIY. Not difficult.

To solder, you need a soldering iron and solder.Solder is a metal alloy that can be melted to join metallic surfaces. You can read more about soldering here and i dun tink ryanz works at standard value, haha

Lol cause he seems to take every opportuinity to promote standard value..
thanks for the help anyway guys

actually there are, plastic, or nickel ones, or some gold plated ones. THAT is if i am getting the 'pickup cover' term right here

for plastic, you can just simply slot them in to give the EMG black look or whatever color you so desire

for nickel or gold, you will have to purchase the cover itself, and have a luthier pot it with wax and solder it together with your pickup (hence less reversible) this is done to eliminate the microphonic feedback that might occur with a nickel cover

then again, unless you have a really spectacular pickup and you jsut want to change the look while keeping it, BUYING a new pickup with the cover you want is much more cost effective. Good waxing jobs might cost you around hundred bucks per pickup and that does not include the covers or the pickups themselves so, just get it new
