one day i was tinkin of hw to mod my guitar during lesson time,n i tt of using crocadile clips(the kind used to connect wires in the physics lab) to go wire to strat/tele style guitars so if u wana change pick ups,juz nid to unscrew pickguard n un clip den change to anew pick up wid diff config...
so do u guys tink its possible?would it affect the sound?pls share your tots... :D
 
this has been tested and tried, the sound/tone quality would decrease alot. same with the kinda clip on wiring thing like EMG actives use.
There will be a compromise in tone for passive pups, not sure about actives though.

Just solder and unsolder them, its not that hard.
 
well, soldering 3 sets of wires, say from 3 single coils, takes like 10min total to remove and install new ones. (thats of course the pup must be already mounted on ur pickguard
 
First thing's first, material. Crocodile clips like the ones you see in your school's science lab are made of steel. Steel has inherently lower coductivity as compared to copper and tends to rust, which farther reduces conductivity.

Some can argue "but this is a small circuit, what does it matter?", a lot I'd say. Especially with the poor surface area of contact those crocodile clips offer. And as how the others have replied, it will degrade sound quality.

Unless you use those molex-type plugs and sockets (those you can find in your PC) I'd recommend you don't bother.

Besides, if you can find the time to unstring a strat, unscrew the 8 or more screws off the pick guard change pickups and restring the guitar... I firmly believe that dedicating 5 to 10 minutes for a decent solder job won't hurt.
 
would be better if you had many pickguards with your choice of pickups
already mounted
Price of pickguards + switches + knobs not much more

Then just swap out the whole set as when u want

Crocodiles are only good for quick testing and underwear.
 
lol..it waas juz a tt..cos i lyk diff sounds wid diff humbuckers at e bridge position..so i wana try...rewiring is kinda troublesome to me actualli...cos i only wired twice before..i nid more practice..
 
Get some more practice with a soldering iron.

It's a very good skill to have. It's not all that hard.
And results are always better than removable clip/socket solutions.
