So you think squier and sx are lousy guitars?

IMO some are really worth the money and can be good gigging guitars, with a few tweaks here and there, it'll sounds great,.

Seriously guys, dont doubt these cheap guits. DOnt flame me. Just proving a point, the country the guitar is made in does matter at times, but hey. China made. So what? There are alot of great stuff made in china. Indonesia? IIRC squier is made in indo. Not all squiers i tried are fantastic but heh, some are great.

Share some thought on this please!

Ah, Robert Renman. I like his attitude towards gear -- very open minded and no brand zealot mentality like so many folks these days are afflicted with.

But back to topic, if you've got the chops, good solid years of experience and exposure to good tone, you can tweak to your hearts content and get a fairly acceptable or even good tone from cheapo equipment.

to me I only believe a guitar is good when u try it to perform in a full band...my experienced w/ my squier strat is it felt good and has a nice sound when i played it through my fx and my practice amp...But, by the time I carry the guitar to jam...It completely overwhelmed by the other guitar/instruments and my solo didn't stand out at all...

Hmm.

Cue the folks who believe that tone is in the fingers. While true to an extent, I'm of the belief that given the right amount of cash I would rather buy something that does not require more time to modify and allow the individual to focus on playing the guitar, rather than tinkering incessantly.

That said, how one judges a guitar really can't be all about sound, there are plenty of other factors at play... brand (doh!), finish, body shape and ultimately FEEL and MOJO, both of which are intangible and hard to define.

And finally, I feel that it would be a fiasco to polish a turd if you know what I mean.

no doubt some of them are decently made.
the question is how adverse the woods are to warping etc.

i've seen quite a few low end ibanez / squiers with warped necks.

afterall, you dont want to be changing/buying a new guitar every 6 months right? :P

Spot on guys, some american fenders ive tried really suck and lose out to my MIM anyday. :D :D I tried a friend's sx and was amazed at the playability. With a change of pickups and swappin out noisy pots, It would be one heck of a rocking out guitar. and yes i used it in a live band situation when i broke a string.

imo..solo not cutting through a mix has a number of common reasons:

bad eq-ing

too much gain

seen lots of such examples..

for the price these guitars are good. i wouldn't have any issues using a good squier to gig. but... i have a fender... and it's better :D

and yes i am very interested to see this sx that beats american fenders 8O
interesting to see how it sounds through a decent stack, not just some 20w combo 8)

^^ true, but bear in mind that amps of a larger wattage tend to take on a life of their own, and any kuching-kurau guitar can sound good in capable hands through such an amplifier.

the clips dont really justify the guitar, let alone the pickups. loved the first clip i watched though, the CS54 one. such nice tube tone (reverend hellhound is it?).

IMO if he really wanted to let the guitar/pickups shine he should have used a JC120. those amps really reflect your guitar's character.

Yo nicky. I tried an american standard before that really sucked. Didnt like the feel. Well it could be a piece by piece thing.

This guy on tgp returned 4 EJ strats before accepting the 5th one...

slyyde: yeah some rigs colour the sound so much that you cant hear the guitar anymore. its like those actresses/models who look hot on screen/print but look like shit in real life

If im not mistaken that his clips were done wif a Reverend Hellhound amp and dat contributes aload to the tone.

everyone once in a while, someone posts " *insert lousy brand here* can beat your *insert famous brand here* "

The question shouldn't be "did he sound good"

The question should be "what would he have sounded like playing a $3000 guitar"

If he sounds EXACTLY the same then your hypothesis would be closer correct, that the guitar doesn't matter.

Maybe there's a hidden follow up video where he goes "Ok that was the crappy guitar, NOW look what I can do with this $30,000 US strat."

was there an SX=bad mentality in the first place? i believe the negative accounts we read/ encounter are mostly from people who have more $$$ & are about to move on to other 'superior' models.
