you get yours from modern day hardware stores or old skool ahpek shops? if i tell an ahpek 'methylated spirit' is he gonna understand?

no no!! wtf, put it in 100 deg water? won't it rust the hell out after that and expand the strings and then cool and go out of shape?

boiling it in all kinds of stuff, like denatured alcohol, mineral oil and horse urine

my strings already 2 years plus. still going good. not a speck of rust in sight. my basses are in the bag 90% of the time and i oil them strings every now and then. loving the dead sound so much now, i won't even sell them. dead sound is so vintage. i call old strings 'seasoned strings'. we should set up a system to put a value to old strings. think relic.. hahaha... selling my old strings, anyone?
