dudes, im a contemporary music player...i play in church. YEah

PLanning to buy a snare, budget is below 1k

is getting a piccolo snare better than a generally normal ones?

i dun really know how a piccolo snare really sounds like but from what i heard from Cds it sounds gd

Y dun post tis in the 'Snare Drum Talk' thread? Anyway, its ur preferences, there's no rite or wrong. If u love piccolo, then by all means go for it. 1k, nice budget, can get lotsa good stuff wif tat kinda price. Hell even half of tat can net u a nice snare. Typical characteristics of a piccolo is a higher pitch than those deeper snares, lotsa crack and faster response and sustain.

I've been wanting to ask as well, am quite interested in the Pearl Sensitone Elite series, anyone knows roughly the prices for these?

Whoa dude for a budget below $1000 you can get a lot of good snares.

You have to tell us what kind of sound you're looking for before we can help you dude.

I'm using a 14x4 yamaha maple snare, and although it doesn't really qualify as a picolo snare, the sound I get is quite a nice one - loud "crack" that isn't that high pitched as compared to a real picolo snare.

If you're looking for a deep "rock" snare sound, you should get a 5.5" or 6" deep snare, or you'll never get the sound.

For $1000 (or $999), you can get an artwood from tama! I remember seeing the price tag during last year's year-end-sale... $700+ iirc. A pity I didn't have enough cash on me, or I would have gotten it on the spot.

Yeah.. the 14x5.5 artwoods regularly go for about US$120ish on ebay, new too

Maybe he's talking about the artwood custom.. even then not that ex

A tama artwood isn't that expensive is it? at most $400+?
dunno leh its probably artwood custom loh. its dark brown with brown wooden maple hoops.

hey marc, which website is it from? or is it from ebay?

i'm looking for a 14x6 artwood as well.

If its customs one, than i don't know. For the standard artwood, i found one Buy It Now on ebay at 139 USD. Shipping would prolly be around 30 to 40 usd. depends on the weight. Cheerios:D

sorry to interrupt for a while: i'm selling off my yamaha billy cobham's signature snare drum. maple shell, wood hoops, silver sparkle in colour and it's in good condition. asking price $520. thanks

yo dude, i think you might have better luck at the classified sections. tried luther yet?

thanks. yeah, tried advertise there but no news yet.
gotta wait loh. normally people are looking for deals. anybody who messages you when your price is more than $350 is usually serious about it.

that's my POV, not a generalisation though.

all the best and hope u get a buyer soon dude!

dude, thanks for the advice. really appreciate it.

hmm piccolos are more of an effect snare. and less flexible. well it depends on your personal preference. and what kind of sound you like. its a better choice to get snares with sizes 13"x5.5" or 14"x5.5" and above. more tuning flexibility. pearl and premier has lots of good snares at prices from 500 - 800. yup take a look at the local stores in town. no rush =)

I doubt it, because what's on Tama's website is the Custom Artwood. The 'normal Artwood has actually been discontinued imo, so the ones that are selling new on ebay are part of NOS inventory some shops have managed to get. If I'm not wrong, one of the ebay shops which still still selling the Artwood is Dale's. Do a search, should find it.

Yesterday I just called Swee Lee about the Tama Starclassic G-Maple, they don't stock it, don't even know how much it costs. The person who answered the phone said they'd have to contact Tama Japan and indent first before they could give a price quote. I was asking cos I saw one on ebay for S$400 8O
