snare drums or full practice kit?

im learning drums real soon, should i get a decent snare drums first to practice or would a full practice kit be more useful?

dude , why not get one set together , after you play for quite a while u may want to but the normal kit to , so why dont u just get a kit , start with a snare all these

hmm, i have very limited space (at least for now) im sharing room with my bro, so a full acoustic set is pretty impossible :x I am thinking of getting a picollo snare, they look cool, but snare have more rebounce than normal toms right? so i guess practising parariddles, singles and stuff wont be that well? hmm. As for practice kits, i really do hope to be able to get a quiet one

why not get a snare practice pad like the put on table on ?

recently bought vic firth dual surface practice pad. and i regret not to buy it earlier. its bounce well enuff to imitate snare's bounce.

I think it is better to get a resale kit, maybe those smaller-kit eg RT (which can also act as a practice kit) since you mentioned that you are learning drums soon. In your practice, I think you will get a mix things to learn eg Rudiments, Stick-Control & Rythmn Patterns....The snare alone is not complete for your learning. Just my 2cent.

some options you might wanna look at.
Add S$40 - S$60 for vpost delivery, depending on weight. I can't vouch for the ddrum one, but the Renown and the Artwood are definitely value for money.

No problem man. Yeah, now Swee Lee probably can only order in the new Artwood Customs.

Ddrum has 12" maple snares, approx S$220 w/o shipping

With wood hoops that's kinda tough. A pair of Gibraltar wood hoops cost about S$160-S$200 alone already.

err...pieces by pieces dun really cost more...depend on how u find it...i got my 4 piece RT set which only cost me $180 including a yamaha steel snare.

$50 for my 12" and 14" RT tom
$80 for my yamaha steel snare and RT bass drum ( snare in pristine cond )
$100 for both my boom stand,one yamaha the other carlos
$50 for a pearl powershifter single pedal (come in box and wrap in plastic )

$280 for these decent items mention above are worth it arent they?

Yeah I have one that I don't used it ...It's a (can't remember I put in a corner) Tama or Pearl Hi-Hat Stand...if you want it...cheap cheap I sell to you lah...how about S$40.00 for it (not shinning like new...it's not rusty too) just normal but in good working condition.

No you cannot buy piece by piece in this manner, then the set at end of day will be very weird (maybe you end up with different colours, brand, hardware) of Toms & such and like someone mentioned here - it would most likely be more expensive. Selling this kit at a later stage would be more difficult to sell too.

My Friend has 2 tom tom and a floor tom (bought only S$120.00 for all 3) but no Bass Drum and any harware...today it's still lying there...and she bought another complete Kit - Priemier (resale too with cymbals)...So my advice is don't buy in this manner - piece by piece.

1K in sufficient to get a Good-Resale Kit (if you're lucky)...yesterday a 5pc, 5 year old Yamaha Stage Custom in Luther only selling S$650.00 (upon polish it will be 9/10) and comes with all hardware except for cymbal....This is a very good Entry-Level-Kit and the sound is superb...provided you change the Batter & Resonant(throw away the stock head when you have the money to spend at later stage.).

Don't waste your 1K (money not easy to earn one)....Look around for a Re-Sale Value for money kit - I'm sure Bros here will advice you, what is best.

Don't buy the Picolo snare...when you buy a kit - it comes with it (more worthwhile that way)...and don't get a snare alone for now - unless that snare drum is a very good one (not standard snare)...don't waste your money....

Last week I sold my 9.5/10 Pearl Export Kit for only S$450.00....it looks Brand New (even my neighbours asked - Wah New Drum Set again har?)....but it's already gone now. I will try scouting around for you & if got good buy - I post here you call them personally.

hey dude. actually get a practice kit. if you intend to buy a snare in sg.. man your choices are limited. haha practice kit lets you roam around freely. learn all the necessary stuff. like your grooves licks and rudiments. tts good ain't it. if you buy a snare? only rudiments and also hell of a loud one. yup. so i feel get the practice kit.. haha.. or buy my demolition if you wan too... lol ( PAISEH ADVERT no offences guys) hahaha :lol:

one thing about practice kits is that they all sound the same. you dont get the tom one and tom two difference. or tom three and snare. i find it very hard to find and enhance my groove on a practice kit. an acoustic kit makes it all the more easier.
