hey guys i think it wld be gd if we do reviews, wat do u all think?
sorry dun hve a digicam but i will take some pics when i get my hands on one. here's a review of my snares.

brand: metro drums based in brisbane aus

finish: red transparent lacquer. more of a candy apple red kind of colour. very smooth and consistent, i haven't seen anyone with a better lacquer then this company.

wood and construction: this company only uses native australian woods. their main wood is called jarrah. its abt twice as dense as maple, which means its louder and the sound u get seems to be more direct. however i find it doesn't have as nice a cross stick as maple, it sounds to much like a high pitch wood block which i hate. this is a stave shell construction which means it's build like a conga. the shell is abt an inch thick, and the bearing edge has a outer and inner 45 degree cut. paul warry the guy who runs the company said he flattened the bearing edge by 1mm to warm up the sound. all the lugs were handmade and made from aircraft grade aluminium. paul actually does these himself out of solid aluminim cores.

sound: i asked for a snare that would primarily be a funk snare with the ability to be a general purpose snare. for one i find this guy to be a really awesome live snare. it projects really really well and its just really powerful sounding. ghost notes are excellant but they sound abit too hard and not soft like u wld find in a deeper snare. tonally i haven't played a better snare honestly. tuned low it sounds like a 5.5 and it makes a killer timbale sound with the snares off. buzz rolls are really clear but like i said u lose that sound played in feel from a deeper snare.

over all: i cldn;t be happier with this guy, although i wld have preferred a more maple sounding crossstick but some people might like the high pitched sound. incredibly sensitive this snare so if ur strokes suck it'll really show.

Hey, firstly, thx for sharing and secondly, having the idea of a review is great. Really detail description there, making readers have a feel for the actual thing. And lastly, tat funky snare of urs sounds brilliant. Would be ideal if it were accompanied by pics. Will have a further impact on the drool factor. Nonetheless, its a great effort. Thx blurred, by the way, wats the cost of tis baby like?

hmm talking about snares...what would u guyz recommend ( from experience ) a snare that fits the following requirements? :

1)affordable
2)More of POP den CRACK
3)Sounds deep...not very high pitched
4)preferably 13inch

i could only come up with possibly the black panther snare ( but have yet to hear them live/ see the price tag )...help much appreciated so i know wad to aim for in the future :D

Black Panther is a very affordable snare, in fact, Mapex is a very affordable drums. One of the snares tat i could offer u is the PDP 805 4x13 or 6x10 snares. Great pop, esp the 6x10 and also cos of its depth, provides great tone and body. And definitely affordable.

ok so i found these snares at midwest percussion 13inch and nice depth...:

Tama Artwood 100% Maple Snare 7 x 13 160USD

Tama Artwood 7ply Maple 4.25 x 13 180 USD

Yamaha Musashi oak Snare 6ply 100%oak 6.5 x 13 250 USD

Yamaha Stage Custom Snare 5 x 13 100 USD

Yamaha Akira Jimbo 7 x 13 500 USD 8O

Yamaha Dave Weckl 613USD

Yamaha Brass Shell 6.5 x 13 335USD

Mapex Black panther Premium brass 5.5 x 13 205 USD

Premier Maple Snare 7 x 13 340 USD

Ludwig Classic Maple Tube Lugs 286USD

Ludwig Satinwood Super Classic Maple 6 x 13 310 USD

PS: i just have a thing for 13inchers....very comfy with them.

Of cos the Panthers are higher than the 805. Oh, tink i found the rite snare for u in tat list u compiled. Definitely has got to be the Musashi. Its one of the great 'popping' snare and at a good price. :P And there are some hi-end and brilliant snares in there such as the Akira Jimbo's, a good snare if u dun mind the pricing. I've heard lotsa snares in there, except for tat Premier and the Ludwigs.

haha ok thx bliss...more comments welcomed...

just having a rough guide...and i will be asking nigel more abt the panthers....really worth a look at... :D

the tribal designed 1?

oh ya i wonder...out of the premium brass series...the 13 x 5.5 is the only 1 which they give in chrome lugs/rims...i wonder why...the rest are black...

it cost me 650aus which is abt 800bucks. i paid 50aus extra from the candy red colour. will try to take pics lah, i'm just really lazy and all. i think my roommate has a digicam.
check out the web link to his web site www.metrodrums.com. when i come back i'd be bringing the snare along. come to the exchange and bring ur DW heh and u can check mine out as well.

hey guys

hey dudes. i have a question. you all kep talking about the super high end stuff. you know the pearl picolo? hpow do you all find it.. its quite cheap right. i wan a new snare but i'm running on a tight budget. what you think?

its good since you're budgeting. i used to play on them quite frequently and their usable. well, in my opinion. i'd rather save for a long time and get the high end stuff rather than get cheap thrills.

oh ok.

haha i guess i sall just live with what i have now.. haha i still haven changed drum heads off.. still the stock heads of course would sound bad la. haha but good drum heads are damn expensive. like if you change the whole set very heart pain wan. spend tt amount can buy a cymbal.. haha

Wat Joshie said is true.

U can't compromise quality.

If money is an issue, my advice for heads longetivity wld be tighten and untighten the heads after every use.

Dat way, the heads wld be "season" and it wld last longer.
