Snare drum sounds and what not.

Hi everyone!
I'm new here! Haha, i actually stay in Malaysia, but i do go to Singapore often.

So, back to topic, does anyone know how to particularly describe snare drum sound, like fat, thin etc. Does anyone have like ways to describe? And maybe some samples, snares that produce thin/fat sounds, type of shell that produces various sounds?

Ok simply put:

Thin - You get a good initial crack/attack on the snare drum and dies off immediately. Usually found in lower depth snares (eg 13x3" Pearl Piccolo snares)

Fat - Exact opposite of thin. Lots of 'body', lots of tone after the initial attack rather than just a dry, no overtone PHAT. A 14x8 snare would be considered fat. Samples can be obtained on youtube. They're plenty of those, just watch for the dimensions of the snare.

Different woods/metals give shell different character - but thats another story. Go listen to clips and your ears should be able to get familiar in no time

Ohh, so something like, thin snares are those, choppy kinds? Dislike those. HAHA
