for the issues at hand (if there is any). be critical but do NOT be self-centred.

i was there today 31-05-08, IMO, having the BOSS/ Ibanez pedals & the DiMarzio pickups downstairs at the loading bay is an avoidable move. for instance, individual X wishes to get an item from the main showroom + a DiMarzio pickup, he might miss the latter despite being first in queue to grab something upstairs, yes?
 
The sale was quite disappointing for me la. And yes I agree that the pedals and pickups shouldn't be put below. It caused me to make unnecessary trips up and down. Plus, this year the selection ain't much though, imo.
 
i agree bout the pedals issue.

me and my fren were kinda confused. we almost went back down empty-handed till i decided to get a cable and some strings.
 
Guys will stocks replenish? At least some of them? Because 2hrs dedicated to members and... long queue ahead. Plus there's still tomorrow.

One of the staff said "What you see is what we have" =/ Did he really mean that literally?
 
my mfo friend went in the morning to help me buy dd-20, he asks the guy they say dont have.

i talk to another guy and he picks up a dd-20 around 2oclock.

i call on friday and ask if they have stock, guy says no.

woah magic, overnight stock is replenished.
 
i felt the mid year clearence sale this year was a bit down compared to last year's end of year sale.the people and items were properly organised.this year,people are able to cut queue in particular those who loiter around the loading bay section.those of us who were not mfo members,waiting to go up at 12 were waiting and some even from the day before.staff just do their job,minding their business.i really think the people shouldn't loiter around and stay in the line.if they want to cut queue,they can go elsewhere.

SL staff told me on Friday that they had choice because in previous years, the pedals got all messed up - reading between the lines, I think it is safe to say that some creative exchanging of parts/components took place. That's why this year they separated out the pedals and issued them at the loading bay.

Even then, there were some Crybaby pedals upstairs and it was disappointing to see boxes being opened and not properly put back.
 
Sub, here are my suggestions:

1. Set up a tent for the queue to shelter people from the elements - heat and/or rain.

2. Remind buyers to respect each other and the vendor by not messing up products and boxes (see feedback regarding cymbals in the Drum thread) - put posters in showroom and in the queue.

3. Consider having a single payment counter for all products to avoid 2 queues, upstairs and downstairs.

4. Properly barricade and control access to the downstairs area so that people can only go in from the queue*.


* I saw a family (father/mother/2 kids) go from the taxi straight to the area, and then monopolized a SL staff for the next 15 mins (at least) deciding what starter guitar pack to buy for the son. I felt so sorry for the people in the Q.
 
great after-thoughts, more for the SL camp to ponder than me... 8-)

the queuing people must also have the guts to tell queue jumpers off but do it politely, ethically- people don't realize their mistakes unless others tell them.
 
Feedback-wise:

1. I think the SL people should be given a pat on the back - no overbearing, impatient, your-problem-not-mine attitudes.

2. One staff in particular was great - average height, slim-built Malay chap (is it Asmat?). He was all over and proactively saved a couple of people from buying the wrong stuff (wrong-sized drum mutes in one case) or making sure they had the proper cables and stuff.

3. Softies were great too - no rush or pushing or whatever. Strangers helping each other out in product opinions and knowledge. Way better than GSS aunties.

4. Softies not so great - littering in the Q, messing up products on display.

this same chap helped my (wife's) cousin with his amp- the chap asked what we wanted because he saw us looking for something that wasn't there. having informed him what we were looking for, he directed us to another place where the item was, saving us from buying a consolation instead. our thumbs up to you, bro!!

also, as usual, Mr. Jai was very helpful especially with queue & payment management.
 
Hey man, I must say that the sales was kinda disappointing. The sales kinda shed only 10-20 dollars for most single pedals. I went on the first day..well it kinda rained late in the afternoon. no shelter was provided except the loading bay so it got kinda squeezy and chaotic. Once you come down you can't go back up due to the chaos.

Well I must also commend on asmat man! He's a great dude and usually when i head to a guitar store i would usually be nervous and drenched in cold sweat. but this dude made me feel comfortable. Nevertheless bought my guitar from him =). so when I went back to the sale, first thing i did was look for him.
He's the guy with a botak head and dark rimmed oakley glasses.

I was in the queue when they came. Got a bit dissed 'cos I thought they were just gonna be allowed in, but they didn't. So all good.

For me,

the cymbals were in a bloody mess. Friggin' bitch to go through everything one by one. PLUS I saw this dude just dropping cymbals he didn't like from knee height. WTF? Those cymbals had potential buyers who might not have seen the arsehole doing so.

The upstairs/downstairs issue was another problem, not for me but for my friends who were with me. They went up with my drummer friend and I, then had to go back down again to grab whatever they need.

Other than that, it was fine I guess.

I want to point out, Swee Lee doesn't have to erect tents/temporary shelters. If they do, it's in goodwill, but there isn't a need. It clearly was a pretty cloudy first day, so I brought my own brolly and reminded my friends to bring their own too.

Side-track a bit ah, Subversion. Does Swee Lee carry Fender pickups? One of my friends wanted to get the Fender Texas Special, but the staff he asked told him that they only carry DiMarzios.

Dropping cymbals from kneeheight?!?!?! That guy should be shot man! He just needs to go through how much pain a single cymbal is crafted before reflecting on himself. I don't mean to sound all out righteous but dropping a cymbal from knee height is pretty preposterous!
 
Yeah I swear I ain't shittin' anyone here. Knee height. He was going through the mess of cymbals. So I wasn't sure if I still wanted to buy the HH Sound Control ride after seeing that.
 
holy crap....obviously he didnt know what he was dealin with over there... anyway.. yea those cymbals were a big mess... it wasnt only that it would do no good for the cymbals but it also put people off from even looking for what they need/want coz it was like... literally... all over the floor or inside some random cardboard boxes that are already tearing apart

so SL might wanna clear that up in the next sale
