single coils and metal

my morning was spent mostly playing around with my coil split on bridge pickup. turns out the twangy sound i get while doing some chuggy riffs is quite appealing after all. i noticed a certain clarity compared to using the bridge in full series.

guess buying a new telecaster has just gotten more justifiable.

Hmm... interesting. My experience has been the exact opposite. I've tried my strat through a large range of distortion pedals, heavy, light, etc. It sounds like crap when I try to play some heavy riffs, palm muted chugging, etc. However when played through a light overdrive, it is absolulely unbeatable.

My Les Paul sounds a lot loooot better for metal.

I guess... well, humbuckers and their compression + extra mids = wall of sound. Its the norm to have that wall where else, with single coils, you get a nice fence of sound. :D Fence with vines and plants on it, lots of good detail but ... not really solid no?

Okay, I'm being overly artistic.

well shred..it depends on wad the portrait is..

if its a something which is soothing..like say..greenery..a wall would look out of place yes?

well..different walls and fence for different pictures..ur the painter.

Oh yah.. .definately... some people looooooovvveeeee that nice fence... others don't.

But funny huh, generally as one gets older, the pups change to vintage ouput singles, the gain drops... man...

Oh yeah... but why split? I find parallel on a bridge humbucker seems to be more... well... what's that word... balanced?

A split bridge humbucker, to me, sounds too weak too thin plus there's that hum.

yea..agree with u cow..

when u split them..they juz lack the..hmm..i dunno..the body?

so u get only the head and limbs..

or maebe mojo??

btw cow..isnt really true wad u sed.."But funny huh, generally as one gets older, the pups change to vintage ouput singles, the gain drops... man..."

im only 18..but my gain is set at like hmm..9 oclock?
for thats where..the sweetness comes in.but keeps the muddiness at bay..no pun intended.

but i do need my dose of heavy chuggin..
:D

but sumtyms..i juz play it unplugged.sumhow i like it tt way also.. :?

Black_Death, you be a gem. A rare find! Hehehe....

I still play with a ton of gain, just less than a few years ago.

i tink its the fatigue la dude..

i nid tt low gain thingy to get in touch with a side of me.

im juz a beginner..and i know nothing of applying scales..well...im trying to learn scales..

but sumtyms..i juz get this drumbeat or some melody in my head..den i juz play..as bullshit as this may sound..my fingers had their own life..they juz moved up and down the neck..and my eyes were closed..and whenever i hit the notes..the melody juz gets louder..well wad i played sounded maebe bluesy or wadeva..but i tink it went well with the melody..

but its all in my head..i try playing out the drumbeat..and nothing comes out..and i cant remember the melody animore...nor can i remember wad i played..i juz played my heart out..heh..

anione get wad i mean or actually ever felt like this before?

You need a means to record yourself.... :) Time to do some research on recording!

Recording is one of the best ways for self improvement. Its like reflectiing on your life you know?

the thing is..when i record..i tend to be too meticulous..

and when i record...the ideas juz doesnt seem to flow..its like im too conscious.and i tend to focus too much on how it sounds rather den letting the ideas flow..its kinda subconscious la.

but i juz play to wads in my head..even notes which sounds wrong..seems to fit into the melody..

or maebe..im juz goin crazy..

more clarity and punch. tighter, clearer bass. less pronouced midrange unlike the distortion which was kinda cluttering in my guitar.

or pyschological
