If we were to keep all our electrical guitar in a wardrobe with any case.
Under Singapore humid condition .
Should we use a de-humidify or humidify?
Saw both de-humidify and humidify at home-fix.
Selling under 100.

Dude, our local humidity is around 90% RH. Do you want to make it more humid, or less?

Dehumidify pls...

The ones you saw at HomeFix, are they room dehumidifiers? Does it require electricity to operate?

There's another portable kind that allows you to "recharge" the drying elements once in a while. This are basically Silica gel types with a built in heater... I'd advise you to get Silica beads (blue in colour) from Camera shops, $4 for around 500ml. Use old stocks and DIY your sachets.

Once they turn pink/clear, take them out and dry them by baking/microwaving (ensure temperature is suitable)

just play the guitar and stop worrying about humidify or dehumidify
its a solid body
it will last

and if the body is going to go ... either will not help

Not exactly my sentiment, but some similarity here...

I don't have a dehumidifier in my room/house, nor do I keep the aircon on 24/7. I just make sure I keep my guitars in their cases after I'm done playing. Wipe 'em down and keep them covered, is my policy.

I actually kinda like the fact that the guitar is affected to some extent by humidity levels...it gives me a good reason to pamper my guitars every once in a while by taking them to a good luthier for a setup. Then they come back all nice and pretty and feeling good again. :D :D

You're probably right about keeping the guitars in the cases after you play them.. I should too.. but they just look so sexy sitting on the racks.. heh heh... I also like the idea of being able to just reach out for my guitar on the stand when the commercials come on.. heh

I've been toying with the idea of getting a dehumidifier for my room as well... I don't on the air con 24/7 but I keep the room door shut practically throughout the day...

400 plus for a dehumidifier? Hmmm to pay for it or not?? heh.. does anyone here actually have a dehumidifier in their room? Does it stop the rusting?

i used to have a dehumidifier
it's main use is in a walk in wardrobe.. supposed to reduce mould froming on clothes
and leather bags etc
Sold it to a woman who was breeding many chinchillas in a aircon hdb room

it does work ..
in the sense that you have to empty the water
from the built in container every 1 ~ 2 days
( cant remember but prob 1+ litres )

it doesn't seem to help in the sense that i do not miss it when sold
and the clothes and bags don't seem to suffer any difference.

There is also the daily electric bill to consider ...
but i guess that that is still cheaper then
continously getting thirsty hippos.

personally, i think its best to just let the guitar sit in ambient humidity/temperature
and spend the $$ on other more tangible beneficial stuffs ... say another effect, new strings etc

I don't feel the difference for electric guitars but for Acoustic guitars, a world of difference!

Try drying your acoustic and hear how crisp it sounds compared to one exposed to 90% RH. It works for both my solid top and laminated ones.
