Should I get a 5-string bass?

Well I agree, I also encountered times when I wish I have a B-string to play the 5th below for notes on the E-string on country and 70s sh1t. But I can still play the 5th above it, so not much of an issue.

haha good for you if you can live with it. sadly i could not. hence i'm currently playing a 5er now. :D

i also found the low B very useful when playing on the higher frets. i don't have to go all the way back to 1st few frets when i'm doing something say on the 13th fret and want to go to the lower notes.

the low b is useful when you are opening up the chord. the high c on the other hand is useful for... SOLOS.... rock bassists who need to hit lower notes sometimes opt for alternative tunings rather than an extra string. there are so many permutations, all meant to remove the limitations on bassists. so it all depends on the individual needs.

although i play a 4 stringer, i there are times when playing certain styles that the B would add an extra dimension. its more than just a note or a string, it is an entire variation to the way you play. but of course i am also perpetually broke so i'll have to get by with what i have :(

you sound like you could do with a 5er. how about lordie's warwick streamer 5? hahaha...

Hey lexxmexx, since you got 2 4ers, why don't you try this. I've actually got 2 4ers and a 5er. one of my 4ers is tuned standard. the other 4er is strung BEAD (the lower 4 strings of a 5 string set). that way, if you wanna play with the low B, you still can play with a 4 string feel. only thing is you gotta get used to the string tunings. A little tuning of your mind to this awareness and I think you're good to go. I'm definitely happy with mine. This way, your basses won't be wasted and you'll get to experiment a bit. If you play more metal stuff, the low B will definitely come in handy. Have fun with your new bass..:)

+1
Good idea! It will help me get used to the B string as well.
Will definite experiment on this. Thanks bro!

nice idea! (tries to sound like the winning eleven commentary) good one there prophecy. just to take note that usually the distance between strings on a 4er and a 5er will be different.

when i first started out on a 5er, plucking is ok, but the thumbing and slapping went haywire haha. tended to hit adjacent strings. of course that's also because i'm using an Ibanez SR series.

I knew lordie for more than 10 years liao, used to his sh1t liao.

Hey lordie, how cheap? If $100, I buy...hahaha
kekeke keekkeekek kekekeke ;p
