Shipping to the US, import taxes

Hi fellow softies, wonder if anyone has sent stuff to the US before... i have a package to send over but heard that if the value is above $100 USD, even if its marked as a gift, the receiver will kena import taxes and duty..

is this true? and anyway around this...?

yup there is a way around this.. declare a lesser value.. but if the goods is damaged you'll lose out on the insurance claim.

i was thinking of that..but not totally comfortable with it.. worried that us customs will check on the item ..is there any chance they will on a small parcel containing a fx pedal? or am i worrying too much?

declare it as a gift. if it has no commercial value it cannot be taxed.

anyway there is no way that they can value a USED item.....
