Hello all i am new here and would like to ask if any of here who are 7 stringers in for metal music who chooses seymour duncans over EMGs?? please give some tips on seymour duncans pickup that might shape in an ibanez 7 strings .... am thinking of putting an invader 7 at bridge with 59s or duncan distortion at bridge ??? and how does EMGs707 sounds like . i heard of many 7 players who have their ibanez 7 in for either an EMGs or dimarzios wonder why not duncans?? hope to hear from u guys sooner :D

hmm..SD pickups r passive and most of the EMGs r active...its really hard to compare both...best is to let ur ears do the decision...

for me... this would be about cost....

putting emgs on u 7-string will require extra routing = extra cost

if u are really interested in the emg 707, i suggest u get the dimarzio blaze custom instead... i read in some forum that the difference between these 2 pickups are neglible when they used these 2 pickups in a shootout...

plus point for the dimarzio.. no routing required...

btw... i remember someone in this forum had done the routiing on his ibanez as well.. cant remember who...

mmmmmm yeah emg707 requires routing and is bad i see dimarzio blaze is almost close to emgs but how about duncans??? is their invader or DD as good?? i heard u cannot expect a pickup to work the same as for 6 strings to a seven strings ...... yet i think thats small differences ?? unless it get too low and muddy for a 7 string pu to get

sorry, this isnt answering ur question chae...

about the passive n active pickups right, for basses,if u wanna change a passive bass to active,u may hav to get the luthier to cut a holw at the back of the body to allow space for the battery..is this the same for guitars?

sorry bin4christ perhaps i havent get in details to say if it matters for active pu to do routing or not yet.... but just wanna comparison between active emgs to duncans passives for 7 strings cause most of the players choice for 7s are not too wide for selection they either uses EMGs or dimarzios yet duncans are producing 7 strings choices for 7 lovers out there so perhaps if sound is right for 7s maybe for an emg707 or till far extend of getting a lundgren M7?? but still thoughts would be spared for EMGs cause it requires routing which adds extra cost, time and perhaps in singapore is rather a big " jeopardy" here or perhaps more wood taken out from body might affect the tonal differences??? be it slightest or not is rather subjective due to personal preferences :D

I'm testing a prototype 7 string pup from HAS Sound.

Looking good in terms of balancing clarity (esp the low B) with fatness.

thanks for ya info shredcow but so sorry i am still new perhaps u mind telling me what is HAS ?? wat u think of affordable duncans like incader or DD to top my planned ibanez 7 strings? kindly give me some pointers thanks

HAS = www.has-sound.com

He makes very good pickups. I am using the Viper and the Helix.

I guess if you want more info on those pups, check www.sevenstring.org (or something)... run over to 7 string forums. www.jemsite.com has a 7 string section.

I've used the Dimarzio New 7 pups, a Blaze neck (in eithe rbridge or neck position) and now, a HAS DropZone7 prototype.

At the end of the day... 7 string pups are all about a balance between tightness/compression/treble. Too tight, too much treble, your low B sounds very nice but the rest of the strings go way too shrill and thin, and vice versa.

I'm still testing out pups... the HAS Vipers are incredible, and its mainly them thats keeping me from playing my RG7621. They just kill!

thanks for ya fast reply shredcow seems like u shipped in your HAS PU so how much it cost u for that??? hehehe intrested in it yet need more time to consider well hope to talk here again tomorrow i gotta sleep it too late thanks ;)

well, as per his website, its 99USD plus the international shipping charges.

Only 6 string pups so far, until I'm done testing the proto 7 stringer.

not bad thanks again shredcow for ya info well if possible for u to post an mp3 for the sound of the 7s?? hahaha hope i am not asking too much

alright shredcow thanks for ya nice information here ;) and ur mp3 are great !!! nice tones and catchy idea riffs for bright musical expansion
