can't help about the hot rails, only thing i know is its really high output. the custom custom, if u take a look at the tone guide, is something like 3/7/6 or thereabouts, highs/mids/bass respectively. as such, the custom custom, imho, does have a certain nice "aww" to it. tonal specs wise, very similar to a dimarzio tone zone. physical tone wise, relatively different. the large amount of mids is pronounced even when the humbucker is flipped about, i.e. seymour duncan words don't read right. chugging wise, with sufficient gain, the CC pulls it off quite well i think.
also, u might wanna take a listen to some of Neil Zaza's works. he has a '59 and a custom custom, neck and bridge respectively. might give u an idea of what it sounds like.
