Hi all,

I'm thinking of installing the Phat Cat into the neck position of my LP... but am not sure which bridge pickup that goes well with it.. any suggestion?

guitar: mahogany body, maple top, roseword fret board...
music: blues/jazz/classic rock

Thanks in advice!

i'm quite a fan of the Phat Cat in the neck 8-)

with reference to your music preference, a Duncan '59 bridge would be a good consideration. this humbucker would keep up with the Phat Cat's clean performance & adapts to calssic rock's dirt well.

Duncan pickups are available @ Davis. please check availability/ price before you make your way there because stock is a little slow in the mean time (US festive season).

an alternative to SD Phatcat will be GFS Dream90(cleaner) and Mean90. I've got the Mean90 on the bridge position of my squier 51. I RIKES.

How much is their shipping? How fast can I get it? I have never buy from them before and I don't know how they operate...

there are also:

i've had both the Duncan Phat Cat and Gibson P94 sets. the Phat Cats are cheaper but sounded much better (to me) than the P94s.

by the way, i think the best match for the Phat Cat neck pup is the Phat Cat bridge pup ;)

if you HAVE to have a humbucker in the bridge though, its best (sonically) to match the alnico 2 magnet of the Phat Cat with an alnico 2 magnet humbucker.

eg. the Duncan Alnico Pro II (low output), Pearly Gates (medium output), or Custom Custom (high output).

a good place to order Duncans online is from http://www.lewsguitars.com/

i've bought from them several times. best prices/service on the net for Duncan pickups.

shipping is fast and they're reliable.

play around on their online shop and add stuff and you'll see the shipping cost depending on what shipping mode you choose. I always do that when I shop online.

cool!!! but.. wat is "MAP" price??

I'm thinking of putting either:

1) the seth lover on the bridge... coz i like the sound.. i used to have a set and now i missed them...

2) I'm also thinking of putting the stag mag SH3 too... coz i play through PA most of the time with my GT2 and I realised single coil is more responsive to PA but I also wanted the humbucker tone when i drive it... So I'm splitting the coil if it is a SH3... or any recommendation still? something more versatile I should say...

Thanks for all the advices so far!

the seth lover should match the phat cat quite well in terms of output and tone. :)

as for the stag mag, it would be better matched with another splittable pickup in my opinion..

what about the SD screamin' demon at the bridge? the phat cat and the screamin' demon can both be found in george lynch's ESP sig guitar

that Screamin' Demon has that wicked lower midrange which sound very raspy to many who aren't into midrange refinements. but i love it 8-)

btw, when installing the phat cats, which is more advisable: a 250k pot or 500k pot for both vol and tone??

i notice the volume different when i use different pots on the tele but not sure how does it affect the sound. I'm not a single coil users YET.... haha...

500k. thats the original spec for gibson's P90s and PAFs.

then we must define whats best liao

1) Best according to the price?
2) Best according whose preference?
3) Best according for what sorta purpose, clean, drive, distorted?
4) Best according to combination with amps, effect or clean?
5) Best according to the above 4 or other factors?
