Schaller straplocks

I got them about 2 months ago and they keep coming loose! Anyone else have this problem?

I've tried them on two basses but I face the same issue on both.

just go and buy the 12 dollar house brand strap locks from davis. great stuff, bang for your buck. i have had it on my les paul for months and it never has come off, mechanism has been working perfectly.

sounds like the screw holes on the body of your guitar has grooved out....can be fixed DIY style but to be safe you can send it to any servicing folk and they'll fill up the screw holes with toothpicks and glue. The new 'hole' is then screwed again for a guaranteed fit.

This is the reason I switched to Dunlop Straplocks.... got the same issue as you on the Schaller strap locks.

I've tried Dunlop, Schaller and Ernie Ball strap locks before. Like em in this order...

Ernie Ball > Dunlop > Schaller

Could it be the supplied screws for Schaller is smaller in diameter compared to Dunlop's?

I experienced the strap button going loose on my jazz bass... the schaller lock connected to the strap seems to grip the button and turn the button loose... I placed toothpicks but still the same issue. My work around was placing a little epoxy.

The 2nd issue is the nut on the straplock that secures it to the strap... this goes loose frequently and must be checked regularly.... the work around was putting some locktite or superglue on the nut to prevent it from becoming loose.

after a while... the button gets loose again... due to the straplock's grip on the button....

This only happens on my jazz bass... its due to the strap button with a bad angle.. causing the straplock to grip the button instead of letting it move loosely on the cradle.

Final solution was just shifting to Dunlop... I prefer how the shaller looks l... but I like the way dunlop designed their strap locks with c locking rings.... no more nuts going loose.

dunlops are the way to go. but i have not tried ernie ball ones yet.

as for dunlops, they also suggest you put some lubricant into the ball bearing locks, as those are the things that prevent the locks from slipping out, with some lubricant, they won't wear out as fast.

without lubricant, the friction will grind them down and wear them out.

I bought my Dunlop straplok from Davis few months back. They had 3 colours. Gold, Black and Silver. I paid $18 for silver and $20 for black. Didn't check the price of the gold one.

gold is 22.50 just bought 1 for a friend's gf warwick.

i replace the warwick straplocks with the dunlop ones,

the wick ones got looses 1 mth after i got the bass, i replace it with the black dunlops, the rear ones got looses after awhile but i did the toothpick+glue and screw it in and also bought those felt button stickers between the body and the straplocks and screw it on tight, so far so good, no mishaps.

and for lube i prefer durex red but for the straplocks a silicon lube that i use for my bike works well as well.

i can get crazy on stage and so far it help up very very welll.

as someone earlier mentioned its a problem with the screw hole and not with the strap lock itself.

u can fill up the hole and drill a new hole DIY but if you want a really good job, just bring it to a luthier. shouldn't be a complicated job
