Definition of a drum circle:
"A drum circle is any group of people playing (usually) hand-drums and percussion in a circle. They are distinct from a drumming group or troupe in that the drum circle is an end in itself rather than preparation for a performance. They can range in size from a handful of players to circles with thousands of participants.

Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. Another main motivation is also drumming for health & happiness. To form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment, I mean that a new voice, a collective voice, emerges from the group as they drum together."

Dear Friends,

As this event is about Music and Rhythm, getting EVERYONE involved, also great for de-stressing and for recharging, we have also managed to invite some intellectually disabled firends to join us. Such participatory activities are common in USA and Europe and are proven to benefit the sick, the disabled and even the handicapped.

Pls spend your weekend evenings with us and with everyone present.

Just came back from the second day. Very cool event. Ha..ha.. everyone IS a drummer! It is amazing seeing how everyone can react to each other's drumming and beat along for the Drum Circle.

Nana and the Vibes is awesome. Very professional party band.

Strike Force can become an attraction for Singapore. Let's sell this idea to STB. Hope to see you guys during the F1.

Hi James,

thanks for the good report!

There were in fact alot of drummers there but there was also a lot of non-drummers there. The ppl just came from the streets while shopping.

On the first day, there was about 20 intellectually disabled kids that came also. You should have been there to see them dancing and the joy on their face when they were drumming!

This event was truly for everyone!

The intellectually disabled kids had such a good time doing the activities that they have never experienced. Many ppl were moved to tears while seeing that... and through the drumming and 300 ppl doing one thing in unison, it created such a harmony amongst ALL the particpants.

As Christine said: The Drum Circle is a collective group of people in which everyone has a personal self expression. Drumming or Dancing is secondary. I, as a "over-educated" drummer have learnt so much just by being in the circle! My life is changed...

Thanks to everyone from SOFT that came. See you guys at the preliminaries of Drum Challenge Asia and Singapore BAND challenge @ Youth Park on 12 July 2008.
