Scam and Fake watch

Since a few days I am following quite closely the offers in the guitar buy/sell section since I am looking for some nice offers.
Anyway I noticed that some offers had all the indications of scam/fake trades.

What are these indications? Usually you see the following come up:
- High end product with a low price (too good to be true)
- Limited time of offer (pressure to buy fast)
- Upfront deposit then delivery (yes, yes)
This in combination with very new profile (yes, like mine but I am for real :-)

The last I spotted I suspect to be such a case is http://soft.com.sg/forum/guitar-buy-sell/122896-wts-original-ibanez-jem7v.html
(forgive me if I am wrong but who sells one of the most faked guitars for 1500 after paying 5000 4month ago and then write original in the title)

In any case it would be good if we have thread were people add suspected fake/scam offers or even bad experience.

Regards Hedron

there's a thread on buyers/sellers to beware of somewhere in this forum. just gotta dig it out

anyway, that guy that you posted about looks dodgy. good call man

I think its a good idea to share when users might think its a scam ever since the reply button has gone missing. I think from looking at the thread, most of us will know or suspect that its a scam.

Yes, its always good to report it to james but then again he's only human and cant be sitting in front of his terminal the entire day monitoring the forums. Its good to be vigilant.

But for the benefit of the newbies, i think some warning is a good way to prevent scammers from benefiting from selling fake goods that is branded "original".

+1 to TS

I went about asking this guy some questions about his guitar that he is selling. He just does not have his facts right and really sounds like he's out on something fishy. Initial sell price in his post was $1500 sgd.

Here's my conversation with him via email. I removed my email addy in worries of spam. You be the judge. conversation starts from the bottom to top. I'm in blue and he's in red.
Sometimes its best to not purchase if if does not sound right and its too good to be true.

PS: please don't flame me. i'm just posting this so newbies will not get hurled into a con job if it is one. Then again, his Jem7v or Jem77V might be legit....

great if we can finalize the details and deal soon. I don’t want to wait too long to buy this guitar.
may I know where is the guitar made in?
does it come with original hardcase, case candy and documents?
I don’t mind paying higher for a good piece.

Hi,

I am very interested in buying the jem7v from you. Is it still for sale or sold already?

Thanks

Hmm, i think one of the glaring problems is when buyers actually buy on impulse without research. They're very prone to overpriced or fake items. Buy with caution peeps!

And yes, the 5k Jem 7v thread was indeed hard to believe :|

a useful thread nonetheless.

However ts, sometimes prices go extremely low due to the reason that some sellers are desperate esp during this economic downturn.

I suggest an inquiry and see if the seller knows his stuff. If youre sure hes a tricky one, suggest to view the guitar in person. From there you will have to rely on your knowledge of the guitar and compare it to see if it fits what you know, there u will have ur genuine/fake.

1) Always Always ALWAYS do research before purchasing anything you see. This is not only to avoid scam but also a form of double check to remind you that this is what youre buying.

2) Learn to say No. I think most of us can do this alrdy, i know some however who are too kind hearted and are willing to feed the 'poor' guy cash for taking the effort to meet up with you. Dont let such clowns take advantage of you.

3) Seek help if unsure. Bring a friend down with you to inspect the guitar you are buying. 2 heads are better than 1. ( No innuendo here ). Knowledge is power and you two or more can probably discern the condition/genuineness of the good.

If scammed, as mentioned many times before, report the persons user on soft etc. Though my guess is the seller would disappear or change an account, its good to notify the others about such a possible scammer.

Im sure James can track his ip too and ban his other accounts.

On a side note honestly i would desire to have the reply button back or at least a Sticky thread of hall of shamers..

Junkiemanxl, thanks for the mail trail.
This was quite insightful.
The guy in the mail trail was basically rubbing it in your face by using the word "original" in a quite excessive way. (Probably still in scammer school)

I agree with superpotato that some might go low due to financial pressure however such a person will probably do whatever it needs to give you info, picture and a test. Beside of this thanks for adding more advices to this thread.

Oh yeah, he did mention that if it was a fake jem, i would get another 10 guitars on him. 10 more fake jems as compensation of some sort?

really but No thanks. he already lost his credibility. Its a nagging liability even if he keeps his word...

I do miss the reply button at times like these but james did step up in a indirect way to see and reply in the sellers thread which was a good call IMO.

Kick his sorry ass

LETS KICK HIS SORRY ASS BACK TO MSIA OR INDONESIA OR WHEREVER HE CAME FROM. SELLING COUNTERFEITS ISNT ACCEPTABLE :twisted:
