P4P = PLAY FOR PAY!!!!!!...is the way to go!
First & foremost do understand that the term PAY TO PLAY means bands having to
pay organizers for the opportunity to play at the gig ... This is the first basic thing you must comprehend ...
As for the rest in response:
1. SBC soft commitee is made of local musos, vid guys / music site owners and ppl who are involved in the indusrty. This is not a hobby for us .. it's a passion.
2. Some of us musos are semi pro / pro each with at least 20-25 years
cari makan expirience here in SG / Europe/ regionally
3. Some of us (me included) have day jobs & some dont
4. The pro or semi pro players in the committee
PLAY FOR PAYMENT -
we dont PAY ORGANIZERS TO PLAY
5. This movement of Play for pleasure (P4P) is directed to the young generation of muso who have to pay organizers to play at their event, or to audition at their event ...... as a cari makan musician - how do you feel about this? never heard of this before right? yES .. IT'S HAPPENING nowdays ..
6.The influx of foreign cheaper bands from Asean countries after the end of the disco era from the early 80s, coupled with higher cost of local acts has led to the decline of opportunies for the SG musician - why do you think I kept my day job? Nowdays, I know of some bands who would even play for beer or burgers .. I have lost paying gigs to these types of bands ... among the cut throat pro band circuit - bands even undercut each other & play for $60 -$70 a night to get the paying gig ... Something I personally dont do coz it will spoil the market.
7. We started this movement of
pay for pleasure or the old term of "Say NO to pay to play" only about a month ago ...
what good job you talking about that clubs all dowan hire pro bands, etc ..brother
8.
AS A SEMI PRO PLAYER - I WHOLEHEARTELY SAY YES TO PLAY FOR PAY ... DONT CONFUSE THE ISSUE WITH
PLAY FOR PLEASURE (P4P) which is directed at newbie musos or even veterans who desperately want to perform live BUT have to pay organizers to audition or even play in the gig...
