Sabian HHX crashes

hey all,

just wondering if i can get some advice from some of you knowledgeable folks out there. i am looking into buying some 2nd hand Sabian HHX crashes and can't seem to decide between a 16 Studio crash, or a 16 X-plosion. the sound i'm looking for is a sort of bright 'pshhh' sound with a short decay. does any of these fit my description? also, i play in a HDB apartment, so i don't exactly want a cymbal that is insanely loud.

also, how much do you guys think i should offer for either of these?

thanks all :)

hmm studio tends to be not as noisy as xplosion. haha. why dont u hear it yourself at www.sabian.com and go hear how every single sabian production crashes sound like. lol. HHX tends to be lower in sound compared to AAX. HDB apartment... aiya just whck la. before 10 pm can alr. haha.

I think it's fair to say that any crash, hit fully, will sound insanely loud in a HDB flat. Even my 12" HHX splash sounds loud.

The HHXs are dark in character. The Xplosion will be trashier, listen to if to figure out if you like that, some people don't dig it.

while its true what bro hozea said about anything u hit in a hdb would sound loud, there is a limit to the loudness of the cymbal.

reasons why cymbals crack may vary from techniques to strength etc2... but i learn that when a cymbal is hit beyond the point where it can't go any louder, it will eventually crack...

it has something to do with the science..

The HHXplosion is very loud. I played with my 19" HHXplosion crash in the jamming studio and my band mates complained that it is effing loud! lol. I had to control my strokes when I crash on it A LOT.

So in your case, the HHX studio crash will probably be a better choice for your home usage.

if it helps, get one of smaller dimension? e.g: "16 inches" as opposed to a 20" crash ? been using 17 and 18 crashes and recently switched to 16 and 17 as my 2 main crashes, haven't looked back since.

hey all,

the sound i'm looking for is a sort of bright 'pshhh' sound with a short decay.

If you're looking for something bright, I would think something in the AAX line is more suitable for you since the HHX line is darker than most cymbals. 16" AAX studio crash sounds like something you might be interested in :)
