and 1 more thing to try out also..dont use string cleaner at all..juz wipe the strings from head to neck using cotton cloth with a sliding motion..i use old tshirts..do it every lets say 15-30mins time while u r playing and one last time after u finish playing..and try cover the strings with a clean cotton also..i use tshirt again to cover the whole fretboard..and dats it..

i guess string cleaners make that brown rusts appear faster..dat is of course IMO only..

i use a ghs fast fret n a treated cloth... works jus fine 4 me... n i have sweaty palms lol...

its $7 at davis... lifespan is depends on how often u use it n how well u store it... i always keep mine in my gig bag...
