rock genre and distortion pedals?

hello

i play music from bands like paramore, switchfoot. just want to ask if a fuzz (e.g big muff) or heavy distortion pedal is needed to play for them? if so any recommendations?
i got a crowther audio hotcake for my overdrives and no distortion pedal yet
was thinking of buying a mxr distortion 3 also, and stack them, but im unsure if the mxr is heavy enough.

i don't know much in this aspect so would appreciate if you can just share what you know, or your own experiences. thanks! =)

UPDATE: haha thanks for all your input. will try stacking ODs at the shops. i read somewhere that alot of metal/hard rock bands don't use distortion pedals, (including paramore, though they are punk rock), they just push their amp to crazy overdrive. is it similar to using stacked ODs? at least they don't clip/modify your signal like distortion pedals do? thanks!

Hmm haha i tried crush crush crush on a metal muff with top boost sounded good but yeah its rather heavy try the ds-1 modded i use that for those kind of genre

Just stack a couple of good OD's, I can get pretty much any sort of dist/od tone with a dual OD combo. Trust your ears. It depends a lot on the amp too.

I doubt you'll need a dual-circuitry high gain distortion pedal unless you're playing Cannibal Corpse, Metallica, Testament, Slayer, etc.

Perhaps you could try the Boss DS-2 mega distortion. Slighly more distortion than the DS-1 but does not go into metal territory.

but if you're more to the softer side...get the mxr soft clip distortion (yellow stompbox). oh, theres also the od-2 overdrive/distortion pedal, that'll work out too (its yellow as well lolz) =D

why not take some time to go to the shops like penin and bras basah swee lee all that and see which one suits ya better?

i know i'm going to get burned for this but IMO...MI-Audio Crunchbox can cover rock genre itself well.

I swear by crunchbox and hell i am loving it.

i run a krank maximus into a ge-7 and it works like a charm especially with scooped mids for paramore
