RIVERMAYA POWERED BY NEBO HEADLINES 3-HOUR MUSIC EXTRAVANGAZA AT DOWNTOWN EAST
Arguably Philippines’ hottest music export – and certainly the pride of Southeast Asia -- Rivermaya opens the new year with a bang by performing at a one-night only concert in Singapore on Easter Sunday, 8 April 2007. This will be the first full-fledged gig in Singapore for Rivermaya in 2007, whose last showcase here was at the Channel V Party in November 2006.
The band -- made up of Blanco on vocals/guitar, Japs Sergio on bass, Mike Elgar on guitars and Mark Escueta on drums -- have been receiving accolades and building up its fans base in Asia and beyond. Most recently, the band wowed international audience at the MTV Asia Awards 2006, held in Bangkok Thailand. The band picked up the Philippines’ Favourite Artist 2006 award for the second year in a row. Rivermaya has also won the Favourite Group Award a record-breaking three times at the MTV Pilipinas Awards in 2002, 2003 and 2005.
In August last year, Rivermaya released its first Asian album in Singapore and subsequently in Thailand and Indonesia. The lead single, “You’ll Be Safe Here” has received heavy airplay on local airwaves, with second offering “Bali Song” rapidly picking up speed throughout the region.
Rivermaya is now a favorite on the Asian circuit having played for Thailand’s biggest rock event, Fat Fest 2006, the Pattaya Music Festival, as well as various concerts in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Rivermaya Live in Concert is brought to you by Quebec Leisure International and powered by NEBO.
It will be 3-hours of pure alternative and indie rock with opening acts John Molina and Krueger, voted Best Rock Band in Singapore 2006 and Power 98FM’s Favourite Breakout Band, The Great Spy Experiment, which has been invited to perform at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin Texas. Also appearing are Addiction, DXO Resident Band and Flybar, champions of the World Battle of The Bands 2006.
Quebec Leisure International’s Mega Events Manager Andy Siva said: “This is the first time that Rivermaya is headlining a concert here and the band is really excited about it. They’ve managed to break out of the traditional boundaries of Asian artistes and have reached out to a wide fan base with their unique blend of music so diverse, it bridges soaring anthems, headbanging rock and poetic melodies.”
Rivermaya is the first in a series of high profile gigs, targeted at youths, to be powered by NEBO.
Ticket prices for the 3-hour music event have been capped at $28 (excluding TicketCharge fees). Students get a special rate of just $15 nett.
