Respraying a SET neck guitar

Hey all. I've been going through some threads here on soft regarding respraying or re-'coloring' your guitar. And most of them comes with bolt-on neck. So i've been wondering for quite sometime already, is it possible to do the same thing on a SET neck guitar such as a lespaul or even a SG (heh!).

Yeah hope someone can enlighten me on this. And if it is possible, is there anyone in SG who does these services at a low price??

Yes it is possible to refinish a set neck guitar.

Tape will be your best friend.

Just tape off the neck and refinish the body.

Then vise versa.
Being careful helps a lot too.

Patience will be your buddy.

Along with it you need loads of this thing called research :D

Hmm.. 'cause i'm considering removing the finish on my SG and change some stuff. But i'm pretty new at this and i need as much info as i can get before starting. Of course it would be better if someone experienced does the job for me.

Btw, mine's a set neck G-400. Im not sure whether it has binding lol. So... yeah.

make sure capture plenty of pictures before doing it and label BEFORE and AFTER so that you can show your effort....

this kind?

Hey yeah, but wont masking tapes make the fretboard sticky after that?

I had a hard time removing the stickiness of the 'PAID' sticker by sweelee on the neck when i got home. =\

Oh and does anyone local do such jobs at reasonable rates??

no.. masking tape are not meant to stick in tt manner.. they are meant for temporary taping.. good masking tape will stick well when u apply and peel off like banana skin when you need to!

Of coz if you are willing to spend, there are a special kinda masking tape that is meant for painting, 3m. The will not cause bleeding of the paint and will leave u a smooth sharp edge where u mask. I've got 1 huge roll but.. lost in a gig while trying to tape my song list to the floor.. argh..
