replacing the pre amp tubes on marshall avt

i have a marshal avt 20. i bought it used and the single stock marshall
12ax7 tube (is it supposed to be 12ax7??) was replaced with a electro harmonix 12ax7, so i haven heard it in action with its stock marshall tube,
i wanna expirement around with diffrent tubes, what brands and what tubes you guys recommend? well any so called 'improvment' in tone differs from individual, but just tell me your views.

Try JJ tubes. You can find them at burlington square. I think the shop's name is Martin's audio. There are only two of them in there anyway so it should be easy to find. I find these tubes to have more definition in sound and less shrill in high gain than ehx(which is the stock tube that came with my avt50). It will darken the tone a bit but your amp's gain knob will be a lot more useable in extreme settings and the cleans will be more focused. Not bad for 15sgd.

which specific jj tube modal? the avt can only take 12ax7 tubes only rite?
