Refurbished Fender Mexican Strat

ok so i got bored... posting up stuff which i've done.

i brought home my friend's guitar the other day wanting to do a big makeover of the guitar... including:

1) Shielding
2) Changing PUs
3) Rewiring
4) Cleaning up the guitar
5) Installing Graptech saddles

Of which, i've not done 1) because I'm pretty unsure how to go about it and 3) because I'm not exactly pro at reading schematics.

Before

guitar was already cleaned up in this photo. strings were taken off, stock pickups, graptech saddles installed.

After

From left to right: SD Custom Staggered, Stock, SD JB-Jr. The Custom staggered is *sweet*.

Graptech saddles are really nice stuff to work with. i'm almost tempted to change my Fender Contemporary saddles to Graptech.

Heyyyy The SD vintage Staggered i believe has no pickup cover to it rights? Where did u buy the pickup cover? It has Seymour duncan written if im seeing correctly.

very nice thor!! was thinking of changing pickups for my mex fat strat but not sure what to change..anyway keep stock no value also right ha...so what would would u suggest for single coil neck and mid and bridge hum? was thinking of sd's for all, or maybe a lace sensor or two..? was thinking of duncan custom in bridge..

how to do shieldin ar?? is it included in the manuals or wad?? shielding seems like a important thing man.. but thru websites i read.. i seems like a damn complicated thing to do..

gordon - that's a strand of hair. :P

Wizard - i'm sorry for reporting wrongly - it's a Custom Staggered instead of a Vintage Staggered. I traded in 1 set of Lace Sensor Golds for the Custom Staggered & JB-Jr, so not too sure if it came with or without the covers.

Jem007 - i changed the PUs cause the stock PUs died. (dun ask me how thou! haha). SDs would be a good choice... depending on ur tastes. I don't really like Lace Sensor Golds - find they are too clean. You might want to try the Staggered or the Hot/Cool/Vintage Rails on the neck and mids... probably u'll want something heavier on the bridge. JB-Jr is really a good addition. Haven't tried the Duncan Customs thou.

You could also consider Dimarzios. Randolf brought his Yamaha Pacifica to TAGS the other day and i was pretty blown away by his combination of HS2s and PAF Pro.

ya... actually after i watched randolf at TAGS i was so motivated to do shielding.. but not too sure how to do it yet. i attribute his sound not to his pedals, but more to 1)Shielding 2)technique 3)Pickups.

I'm wondering if i should let someone expert shield my guitar for me... but i do want to pick up the skill myself and practise shielding on other guitars.
