Refinishing in nitro cellullose

I recently contacted a local manufacturer of paints, Brightex, about their availability of nitrocellulose automotive paints, and the good news is tt, they do have it!

However, they do not have it in aerosol spray forms, you've got to finish the guitar using a brush. Anyone has any idea on how to do it to get a smooth and nice finish, using a brush?

Here is what one of the helpful guys replied when i asked them the same questions. I'm quite new to guitar refinishing, hope the more experienced Softies here can help me out a lil'. Thanks!

You're welcome.

First of all, are you painting on bare wood (meaning there's no
existing
coatings on the guitar?). If yes, you sand the wood surface smooth,
apply
two coats of NC white primer making sure the primer paint covers the
wood
colour, sometimes one coat will do the job. Primers are known to be
rough,
so do not worry if you did a good preparation beforehand. After drying,
sand it smooth again and make sure there's no dust. Thereafter apply a
coat of the black gloss. Sand it smooth again after drying and finally,
apply a final coat of black gloss. It should look as smooth and nice.

Tips: Do DILUTE the primer and black gloss with some thinner so that
you
can brush paint easily. Do test on a piece of wood before you start.

Hope it helps.

Regards,
Dennis

Bro, get a cheap airbrush and canned air for this nitro project of yours ...the hobby shops (model kits) have cheap ones from under $30 ....

much much better than hand brushing.

be sure to checc for the correct thinner for this type of paint from your automotive dealer as well - you'll need it to thin the paint for airbrushing as well as for clean up

how about if i were to apply the primer, sand to smooth, apply again, sand to smooth, and after im done with the primer coat, apply the black gloss with a brush, wait for it to dry, sand it smooth ( according to the manufacturer, this paint has self levelling properties ), and repeat this process, and finally, get down with the sand paper for coarse to least coarse to a polished surface?

you think that will work?
